Hi! As far as I know when ring modulation is used, OSC 1 which is the modulater, modulates OSC 2 which is the carrier.
But I somehow have the feeling that it sounds pretty strange. At the moment I have OSC 1 as triangle, OSC 2 pulse +12 semitones and both OSC's + RM on 100% volume.
Is this the right way to use it?

Re: Ring ModulationNo. If you have either or both oscillators turned up then you have AM. They need to be turned down to have pure RM.
Re: Ring ModulationOh.. so osc 1 + 2 on 0% volume and RM up and then I hear the pure sound, okay, I will try that shortly!

Re: Ring Modulation
Not quite. You will hear osc1 and osc 2 with no modulation at all, and you will also hear the ring mod (osc1 x osc2) Windows 11 Home - 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400 2.50 GHz -32GB RAM

Re: Ring Modulation
Exactly
Re: Ring Modulation
Please excuse my brevity, I was busy at work I just wanted to quickly point out that it wasn't RM if the source oscillators were also turned up. We can talk more about the specifics if you want to though
Re: Ring ModulationYes i know that. RM only occurs when you multiply the two signals. The gain/vol faders will give you the levels of each, so yes, if you want only RM, you need to turn down the osc faderly (as you know)
Theres no AM happening if you have osc faders up, you will just be hearing the osc and RM signals together Windows 11 Home - 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400 2.50 GHz -32GB RAM

Re: Ring ModulationJust to clarify what I mean:
RM = a * b AM = a (or b) + (a * b) So, AM is RM with one of the source oscillators mixed in.
Re: Ring ModulationBut they are not mixed/modulating each other. The signals are just playing at the same time. They dont interact via the osc mixer.

Re: Ring ModulationTrue, but the effect is the same.
Re: Ring ModulationOkay.. with OSC 1+2 with 0% volume, RM all the way up and a few semitones, it rly sounds horrible.
I have the feeling that there still is something wrong My soundbank "Dark Cyberpunk" for Dune 2 with 40 patches: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEVGqIAQ2rU
Re: Ring ModulationThis is how it sounds raw. Just OSC 1 [Sinewave] modulating OSC 2 [Pulse] with +17 semitones, both on 0% volume and RM all the way up.
https://soundcloud.com/foxedge/terrible This is how it sounds like with both OSC's on 100% volume: https://soundcloud.com/foxedge/terrible-with-osc Is it supposed to sound like that? Despite it isn't processed at all and the melody I played is crap (just an example). Is version 1 without the both OSCs the "usual way" when aiming for ringmod? Edit: Deleted my edit, I mistaken something. The only good sounding result I can only achieve with OSC1 on 100% volume and OSC2 shutdown to 0. Re: Ring ModulationDo you actually know what RM is?

Re: Ring Modulation
I guess it is supposed to sound kind of like that, but still I want to know what settings referring to the OSC's volumes are common. In my other synth the RM sounds a bit different and since it uses in a different (one) way, I am not sure how to setup it here.
