Hi. I have created a patch which is kind of a beat, therefor the MSEGs are looping some filter-automation as you can see on my screen. Sometimes, randomly, when one of these envelopes reach their highest point, Dune II causes broken clicking sounds silent in the background. But since it doesn't happen at all the same spots/time I don't think it is overdriving.
My masterchannel peaks on -3dB for this patch. In fact these clicking sounds that occur are pushing it to -2dB, when it happens.
Any idea how to get rid off this?

Re: Annoying clicking sound
I think you can upload zip files. Try that.
Re: Annoying clicking soundWhy would you exclude patchfiles but allow to upload them as zip? Well, here you go.
I can hear the clicking way better with headphones, if you don't hear it with your monitor speakers try that. You need to hold down one key to play the "sequence". You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post. My soundbank "Dark Cyberpunk" for Dune 2 with 40 patches: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEVGqIAQ2rU
Re: Annoying clicking soundThe only click that I hear is at the start of MSEG1 and is caused by the sound going from silent to maximum very quickly. If you want rid of that then just move the first peak of MSEG1 a notch to the right. Any other clicks from this are possibly crackling due to your system not being able to keep up, in which case you'll need to change your soundcard settings.
Re: Annoying clicking sound
As I said I only hear that click sound when the envelopes reach the top, that happens in the beginning of MSEG 1 and in the mid of it. Don't you hear clicking sometimes when the mid comes? I tried that with moving to the right, or with setting the height lower, but the changes must be so major to get rid off the click sound that it is not the same it was before. I have a pretty great system, can't imagine it's the system not keeping up. Intel i5 3,40GHz x4, 8 Gigabyte Ram, 2 HDD's with 1 Terrabyte each, Windows 10. Re: Annoying clicking soundNo, I don't hear (or see) any annoying clicks just the envelope of the MSEG acting as it should do.
Have you checked that your signal isn't clipping?
Re: Annoying clicking soundWhere can I check that? I use FL Studio. I could also export my file and if there is clipping on my side, you would hear it in the mp3 right?

Re: Annoying clicking soundYep, try exporting and look in something like Audacity.
I presume that FL Studio has a master channel with a level meter on it. Check it's not going over the 0dB level on that.
Re: Annoying clicking sound
Yeah I have that master channel with the level meter, as I wrote in my startpost it is peaking at -3dB and still clicking :/ Im gonna export the mp3 and post a SC link here, maybe u can hear the clicking then. Re: Annoying clicking sound https://soundcloud.com/foxedge/example
Somehow I can't hear the clicking on SC that well. But one strange behavior, also on Soundcloud with this file: When I pause/play the audio, no matter if in FL/Windows Media Player/Audacity, the clicking sound also appears. Also, when I click somehwere into the track while it is playing. You could try to reproduce that while just clicking several times on different positions of the track while it's playing on soundcloud, it triggers the clicking sound as well. These are the spots where it happens from alone while playing: I have to mention that I am now listening with superlux headphones, they should catch the sound more clear and detailed than others since they was made for this purpose. Re: Annoying clicking soundI can't listen to the clip right now, but the waveform looks fine. It is just the snap that you get with fast envelopes that you're hearing.
Re: Annoying clicking sound
That's because it is very easy to click in places where amplitude is very high, so the first thing you're gonna hear is a click. It doesn't mean there actually are clicks. I agree with Mark. I don't hear clicking other than in places where MSEG come in fast, and that waveform looks rather normal. Obviously, you should try to capture/record somehow what you hear, not export the file. But, being that it's fine when you export (as evident from the SC), and not while you're playing in FL, it suggests that your listening system might be the cause. High spec computer doesn't necessarily mean it's great. I would suggest trying to raise the latency for your soundcard, just to eliminate that. SoundCloud ::: Facebook
Re: Annoying clicking soundYou may be right that it just happen because of the fast envelope and since I have delays in it, these are throwing in the clicking randomly somwhere inbetween cause they catched it before. But it is still sometimes a kind of dirty cracking sound, not just a clicking caused by fast env.
But either let the envelope start at 30% instead of 0% or reducing the highest point from 100% to 75% which both is by the way altering the sound too much helps to get rid off the clicking. I think that's not how it is supposed to be. Isn't there a way to use fast envelopes without this side-effect? I don't know where I can change the latency for my soundcard which is onboard by the way. My soundbank "Dark Cyberpunk" for Dune 2 with 40 patches: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEVGqIAQ2rU
Re: Annoying clicking soundAs requested I now recorded the sound I am actually hearing not just exporting a file,
I used stereomix and the No23 recorder to capture. I set Dune II a bit louder than usual for the clicking to be better audible. It's still peaking at between -3 and -2dB in the masterchannel with a limiter on it, while the highest parts when the filter opens extremely come closely to 0dB. https://soundcloud.com/foxedge/01-fox-clicking-sound-2 The clicking/cracking I am reffering to occurs at 0:05-0:06, 0:10, 0:18 and so on.. but the last two are best noticable. You need to really turn your speakers up or use headphones and listen closely. My soundbank "Dark Cyberpunk" for Dune 2 with 40 patches: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEVGqIAQ2rU
