I've been a Dune 2 user and although I love the synth I have had many problems with it.
After the latest update:
1. Multithreading doesn't work. When it's on I get spikes on all patches even if Dune 2 is the only VSTi loaded (on a i74930 CPU and RME UFX interface). I get no spikes with any other VSTi's. When I turn on Multithreading spikes are gone but CPU usage is increased dramatically.
2. When I load Dune's interface I get crackles. Sometimes it crashes Cubase when I load it. I've also performed tests and Cubase fails to close if I have Dune loaded on the project. Tried removing Dune for troubleshooting and the same project closed just fine.
In general, I get a very erratic behavior to the point where I avoid using Dune 2 altogether.
I've seen many people here having problems with Cubase 8.5 but not a solution to those problems.
Is there a known issues list and can we expect an update soon?
And most importantly: How can I contact support for these issues? Forum is a great resource, however, I had topics in the past that never received a proper solution.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Dune 2.5 Crashing Cubase 8.5/ SpikesWhat system do you use? Windows or OS X, and which version? And what's your audio buffer size/latency setting?
We have Cubase 8.5 installed and DUNE 2.5 runs fine here. For now I'm assuming Windows: 1) If you get spikes with multi-threading, then something is disturbing the multi-threading. This could be anything, for instance anti-virus software, a poor network or audio driver, some background service, or less than optimal system settings (very important are the energy saving settings, for instance a minimum CPU of 5% is no good for audio, should be 100%). All we can do here is give ideas though what to look out for, as there is many potential sources for this issue. Note that multi-threaded plugins are more sensitive to the system setup than plugins which do not offer multi-threading. 2) Does this happen only when multi-threading is on? In that case, it is probably related to 1. It is not something we ever encountered though. Admin - Synapse Audio Software

Re: Dune 2.5 Crashing Cubase 8.5/ Spikes
Hi Richard, thanks for the reply, 1. It's a Windows 10 Professional system. The PC is an Audio DAW PC built by Scan in the UK so it's fully optimised for audio (all the BIOS settings) and the DPC latency is pretty low with no spikes. When I turn off Multithreading the spikes stop but the CPU load is huge. But I could probably live with that. 2. Since I cannot use Multithreading I have turned it off. The crashes happen even with Multithreading turned off. Thanks for your help.
Re: Dune 2.5 Crashing Cubase 8.5/ SpikesOk thanks for the details, what is your buffer size setting? If it is very small, say 128 samples, I strongly recommend to try a larger size, say 512 or 1024 samples, that should help the multi-threading.
Also do you have any other plugins installed that use multi-threading? Admin - Synapse Audio Software

Re: Dune 2.5 Crashing Cubase 8.5/ SpikesHi,
No other plugins that I know use multithreading. Hmm... I always work at 128 samples as I perform live and record real performances so latency and tightness is really critical for me. Anything above 256 wouldn't be viable and unfortunately tried 256 and the clicks are still there.
Re: Dune 2.5 Crashing Cubase 8.5/ SpikesThis is probably too low for multi-threading, for sure it is too low if you use a sample rate higher than 48khz.
Each thread switch will take CPU, assuming a well-optimized PC it is something in the microsecond range, per thread. This is the time Windows needs, it is not controllable by DUNE 2 in any way (except by prioritizing threads, which we already do of course). Now if you run a low latency, the overhead of the thread-switching becomes an issue at some point. For example, at 128 samples latency and assuming a 48 kHz samplerate the host+instruments/fx have only 2.6 ms to process an entire block, at 96 kHz only 1.3 ms. Within that block, the host typically performs its own mulithreading and then DUNE 2 or other multi-threaded plugins do their multi-threading on top, so there's quite a bit of thread switching going on. The only thing that can be done here is to optimize Windows as much as possible, or to use larger latencies. EDIT: Having said this, with a single DUNE 2 instance I can go down to 128 samples on my PC and still have no crackles with multi-threading on and a very CPU-demanding patch open (Win 8 / Orion 8 / 48 Khz / RME Hammerfall), not even with email, skype, internet explorer and other programs running simultaneously. Cubase seems to require more latency, not sure if it opens more threads or what the reason is, but it does run stable too under this setup. So I presume there is something that is disturbing the multi-threading on your system. Admin - Synapse Audio Software

Re: Dune 2.5 Crashing Cubase 8.5/ SpikesI've had crackles and spikes in a number of hosts with emu and NI interfaces with processor hungry synths (not Dune 2 though I'm afraid ) they drove me mad. I was blaming all sorts of things for causing it and eventually turned out to be some Intel driver's. I read all about optimising my computer and it made a big difference (other services were interrupting the cores), its worth optimising anyway,,hope that helps
