Hey,
fresh user of Dune 2 here, just bought in the sale. Now i'm wondering, the Dune 2 demo came with a manual, which was accessible via the start menu entry of Dune 2 (Synapse Audio -> DUNE 2 Manual). Now that i have installed the full version, it doesn't find the manual location anymore. The shortcut in the start menu points to the folder where the AAX version is installed (why does that get installed by default anyway? I don't need it, and i don't need the 32-bit VST either.). The thing is, neither the folder the shortcut points to is correct (shortcut points to "Avid\Audio\Plug-Ins\DUNE 2", the correct folder seems to be "Avid\Audio\Plug-Ins\DUNE2.aaxplugin"), nor is the manual in that folder. Through Google-ing, i found out that the manual is also on the Synapse website: https://www.synapse-audio.com/DUNE-2-Manual.pdf Is that the latest manual? Also, is it normal that it doesn't get installed with the plugin?
Oh, there's another issue with the installer BTW. I'm logged into Windows with a normal user account, meaning that i get prompted for the admin password, when performing tasks which require administrative rights. Now, the Dune 2 installer is executed with whatever rights the actual user has, which, in my case, means, that it is executed with normal user rights, not admin rights. You can't choose which plugin versions you want to install, it always seems to install all versions, VST 32- and 64-bit, and AAX, and the default folder for the AAX is in the Program Files folder, which means that it cannot be installed with normal user rights, unless you choose a folder which doesn't require admin rights to write into. And, if you install Dune 2 WITH admin rights, you then have the problem that, when you run your DAW WITHOUT admin rights, Dune 2 will not be loaded, because it can't access the folders where the wavetables are stored, as, obviously, it writes those in the installing users Documents folder. The solution for this would be to always require admin rights to install Dune 2, AND to always install it for all users of the system, then you won't have these issues. Maybe you can "fix" the installer in that regard. Actually i know one or two other plugins, where it is the same problem, so i already know my way around this.

Re: Dune 2 - Manual not being installed?Congrats on your DUNE 2 purchase. It is an amazing unique synthesizer that is worth having in your arsenal and will complement your current favorites.
The link for the manual is wrong, indeed. I reported it earlier but I guess the developers will update the installer to correct this, along with the other thing you are reporting, and I have reported, such as: 1. Midi in light issue in FL Studio. 2. The VA waveform display of the sawtooth is a ramp down, while an oscilloscope shows a ramp up. 3. I am having trouble with the sensitivity (?) of the menus: when I click with the mouse to show some drop down menu in DUNE 2, sometimes the program makes the selection itself, when I didn't even finish clicking. 4. Fine knob readouts. As the scale doesn't seem to be a regular linear cents scale, but some kind of exponential, IDK. So, +1 cent in DUNE 2 is not the same as +1 cent in other synths. It is finer in DUNE 2 at lower values, which is good, and forces me to use ear but not trust the readouts. BTW, the manual is located on my machine in Program Files (x86)/Vstplugins/DUNE 2 Last edited by Yorrrrrr on Sun Jan 01, 2017 6:36 pm, edited 4 times in total.
Re: Dune 2 - Manual not being installed?
Thanks mate.
I just did a search in my plugin folders, and, the manual is indeed in the x86/32-bit plugin folder... as i don't use 32-bit, and only instructed that folder, because i couldn't untick the 32-bit installation, i didn't look into that folder. Thanks for the heads up.

It's actually funny, because i found this earlier: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=11682
Re: Dune 2 - Manual not being installed? But now the envelopes are "strawy" ?
Anyway now that you own DUNE 2 you can try to convince the Synapse team to create envelopes that you can no longer find a reason to complain about........
Re: Dune 2 - Manual not being installed?Or you could just get over this thing. After all, it's not like i insulted you personally, or something. At least i didn't intend to do so. With stating my PERSONAL opinion.
Re: Dune 2 - Manual not being installed? Can we leave what happens at KvR away from here please?
This isn't directed at any one person in particular btw!
Re: Dune 2 - Manual not being installed? The link to the DUNE 2 manual is as follows:
http://www.synapse-audio.com/DUNE-2-5-Manual.pdf This is for version 2.5, the latest version. Note the manual is also available in the installation folder on the PC, and in the dmg installation archive on the Mac. We usually link to the latest version of our manuals from the product pages: http://www.synapse-audio.com/dune2.html About AAX, it should only be installed if ProTools is available. But sure, we could additionally make it optional. The idea was if someone has ProTools, they almost certainly want to install the AAX version Admin - Synapse Audio Software

Re: Dune 2 - Manual not being installed?I don't have Pro Tools installed. The demo version actually didn't install the AAX version, only 32- and 64-bit VST, while the full version also installed the AAX version.
Re: Dune 2 - Manual not being installed?I think if DUNE 2 finds the Avid folder it will install the AAX plugin. No need to actually have Pro Tools installed. In my case another plugin had created the Avid folder when it was installed some months before DUNE 2.
I assume we can just manually delete the AAX plugin files if the 17 megs it uses is needed. I just left it alone here. Program Files / Common Files / Avid
