32 note polyphony would be very cool....especially useful for many of the long, evolving sounds that DUNE 3 does so well...
It runs out of voices too quickly at the moment and you don't always want the note stealing going on...
I was only asking for a 50% increase in polyphony,but a 100% increase would be a bonus....
When DUNE 3 was released and I saw the new features,it was surprising that the two filters could not be independently assigned to the oscillators...
That was a missed opportunity....
I could paint the assign buttons onto the GUI for Richard, but that isn't going to write the code
Hopefully ,it would not be too much work to get these features included in a future D3 release...
Extra polyphony and independent filter assignment are the only features that DUNE 3 needs to be close to perfect....
One thing is for sure....it sounds awesome

Re: DUNE 3 Dual Filters & Increase Polyphony
Its not incorrect. You just don't see connection between technical and musical point of view. How many polyphony notes you need for synthesis emulation of viola e.g?
This is not what I said. Increasing + editing copied voice allow you to reach the same result as increasing the polyphony. What is the goal you want to reach by increasing polyphony to 32 notes? You want to create music which is unreproducible live? Hire me for graphic design.

Re: DUNE 3 Dual Filters & Increase Polyphony
Dune 3 is a synthesizer so how many notes do you need for playing a full Synthesizer Pad? You're just not understanding the definition of Polyphony. When playing pads with full chords and a lead line on top it is possible to run out of polyphony which is why so many people have asked for it to be increased. Some people play more than one note at a time.
No it doesn't, you're way off. Take your octave example. Yes you could add another layer and detune it by an octave but then every time you play any note it will play two octaves and I'll frequently do that to make fatter sounds but that doesn't mean you can play more notes. You're still limited to four notes at a time before note stealing kicks in (at four note poly). Again some people play synths and don't just use them to mouse notes into a sequencer. Polyphony is the number of notes than can be played at one time not the number of semitones in a patch. Polyphony is dependent on the time a note is playing. If you set a fairly long release time then the note will continue to play even after you release the key and will take up Polyphony. If you're playing a four note chord with long release it will keep using 4 notes poly (when poly is set to 4) and voice stealing will occur when you play more notes. Even at 16 Poly it's possible to have note stealing. With 32 Poly you'll be half as likely to encounter voice stealing.
So we can play for example full fisted chords with lead lines on top in real time with a fair amount of release time without note stealing
No we want to make music that is reproducible live without worrying about running out of Polyphony. I can't explain it any simpler than that. If you're not getting by now I fear you never will.....
Re: DUNE 3 Dual Filters & Increase Polyphony
After reading his comments, I would say that it could be a coin toss Increased polyphony is what I was referring to....not extra layering... At least a couple of people knew exactly what I meant.... That's a very good start
Re: DUNE 3 Dual Filters & Increase PolyphonyTeksonik,
I understand all what you say, just you dont want to understand, what I am saying. Maybe caused I am not english native. These are my last cents to this theme. Imagine you have 1 octave keyboard. Technical point of view says, it would be great to play all 12 semitones in one time. Musical point of view says 5-6 semitones are enough, bc music is created for humans not for autistic robots enjoying disharmony. Try to observe famous composers. They reduce the number of notes in chords many times, because too many notes cause a loss of musicality. In this example of mine, if I had to choose between a 12-note polyphony that can cause sound artifacts or a 4-note polyphony with clear sound, I would always choose the second option. Note stealing is more positive than negative effect. Limiting of polyphony has a logical reason. The average user will blame the software developer and not their devices from bad sound. If you think you can dramatically improve your sound by playing hundreds of notes, go for it Howgh Hire me for graphic design.

Re: DUNE 3 Dual Filters & Increase Polyphony
No you're not understanding. I understand what you're trying to say but you're just not getting the point of increased polyphony. You're confusing the technical limitations of inadequate polyphony with composition techniques. They are two completely different subjects.Try to understand that concept. One more time....a note in it's release phase is still using polyphony. It is very easy to push any synth to 16 note polyphony by simply playing four notes chords in rapid succession with just a bit of release time. Try it yourself if you actually own a midi keyboard.
No it's not. Again you're not understanding the subject. You are completely missing the point.
Wrong. The only reason to limit polyphony is to reduce CPU demand. Since even the most complex patches in Dune 3 only take 3% CPU here it's not even an issue. If your system can't handle 32 note poly then dial it back to 16. Having 32 gives the option to use it if your system can handle it and most should be able to, limiting it to 16 removes that option.
Nobody is asking to play "hundreds of notes" only the ability to play rich sounds without note stealing. You need to study these terms before posting: Polyphony, Note Stealing, Release Time. It's obvious you have much to learn.
Re: DUNE 3 Dual Filters & Increase PolyphonyMy momma always told me that stealing was a sin,so I don't want no note stealing happening in my world
