OSC 2 always on.

Postby sp4rx » Mon Jan 24, 2011 3:27 pm

How do I get OSC 2 to be turned off? What if I only want to use 1? Its always on, and its doubling my amplitude, when I don't want it too. I can't have a higher note in OSC 1 without it effecting OSC 2. The OSC-Mix is fully set to OSC 1.

Another issue is, I can't use the Square wave without having Pulse-Width above 0.

I don't understand what you mean. If Osc mix is set fully to Osc1 then there will be no Osc2 output.

A pulse width of 0 corresponds to DC offset (as does pulse width of 100, but with opposite polarity). Think of the extremes of a pulse wave as on/off states. PW=0 is always off, PW=100 is always on. To get a pulse wave you need it to switch periodically from off to on and back again etc. For a square wave, pulse width needs to be set to 50, i.e. on and off for half a cycle each.

if the OSC Mix is fully left to OSC1, no sound is coming from OSC2

Thats not the case for me. Sometimes OSC-MIX is fully targeted onto OSC 1 and OSC 2 still has output. This is even like this when starting a blank INIT patch. Its definitely a bug.

If it was a bug, I am pretty sure it would have been picked up in almost a year of beta-testing, unless it has been introduced recently. It is far more likely you are doing something wrong. Check the Mod Matrix and FM settings.

Just tried it on a blank patch. Seems to be working fine here.

Pulse Width 0/100 is exactly what it is meant to be, a zero or full duty cycle, which is inaudible. This is according to the technical definition of the duty cycle. Some implement it differently, it's a matter of taste. It may be useful for gating or other effects though; also Dune prefers reliable numbers to simplify patch design (e.g. if a 100% duty cylce is not 100%, then what is 50%...?).

As I mentioned. It does this on INIT patch. It doesn't always do it either. Sometimes it does. There is a blank matrix when this is happening... FM is 0 too.
