BFD EcoI bought BFD Eco last week from the audiomidi folks for 29 bucks, but it crashes on install, and then doesn't show up in Orion when I do the reinstall that Windows 7 asks me to do. The error log that the BFD program generated says, inter alia: "PlugChecker.exe caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005)
in module PlugChecker.exe at 0023:6e6f6300 Exception handler called in DllMain..\..\..\..\Common\VSTi\VSTiSynthMain.cpp. Error occurred at 8/31/2011 20:22:56. C:\Program Files (x86)\Orion8\PlugChecker.exe, run by TOM." I've contacted FXpansion twice now, but they've not responded. Is this possibly an Orion problem? I am over my head on this one. Audiomidi.com deal here: http://www.audiomidi.com/BFD-Eco-P12903.aspx Thank you!
Re: BFD EcoI bought to and everithing working well
(Orion 8.5 public beta and Win 7) Did you tray reinstall it ?
Re: BFD EcoYep. I uninstalled, even, and re-downloaded the files, and tried a reinstall 4 times. I am just a little unhappy that the FXpansion folks have not responded to 2 separate reports of the crash, with which I submitted the crash log and everything, after more than a couple of days. Well, it was bargain software. Thank you for the suggestion, however. I can't remember running into this sort of problem in a very long time.
Re: BFD EcoSince it crashes during installation, I'd consider re-downloading the installer again and try re-installing it.
Plugin Checker ordinarily crashes when finding the faulty plugins, and thus skips them entirely - that's why it's not showing in Orion, which also might suggest it's not Orion's dealing, but doesn't necessarily have to mean that. You could try helping the Plugin Checker doing this, just to see if it works: 1. Locate the .dll file of the instrument - if you installed into your vstplugins folder, locate it there. 2. Copy the .dll file name (you just need the name before .dll) 3. Open the "vstcfg.txt" file inside your Orion folder - it's a regular text file, so notepad will do. Scroll all the way down and on new line paste (or type in) the exact name of the .dll file (case sensitive), following by =1. For example (though I don't know what the file is called, I'll presume it's Eco.dll): Eco=1. 1 indicates it's a VST instrument, 0 is for VST effects, and -1 is if you want the .dll file to not show in Orion's lists (case with Izotope plugin wrappers). 4. Save the changes in the vstcfg.txt file 5. Move the .dll file outside Orion's scan folder (can be anywhere else Orion isn't scanning) 6. Run Orion and then close it. 7. Put the .dll file back where you moved it from 8. Run Orion and see if it picks it up. In case it doesn't, turn on "Rescan at Startup" in Options->VST Paths, close Orion and run it again. In case that doesn't work, you'll have to wait for Rich to investigate (possibly includes getting in touch with FXpansion and sorting it out with them). A good hint to remember: don't install Orion into Program Files under Vista/7. SoundCloud ::: Facebook
Re: BFD EcoThanks, I will try all of that. That's very, very helpful. Why should Orion not be installed into Program Files under Windows 7?
Re: BFD EcoIt's not that it won't work that way or that it's not allowed, it's just that it's recommended not to, since it's set up so that little modifications are allowed there to prevent viruses and other malicious stuff to root themselves there, and for people knowing nothing or little about administrative rights settings within Windows Vista/7 it can sometimes cause more problems than it solves.
You can read Richard's post about it here. SoundCloud ::: Facebook
Re: BFD EcoDid you tray with another vst host, sometimes I use Cantabile lite (it's free) http://www.cantabilesoftware.com/lite/ or Reaper http://www.reaper.fm/
At least you can understant if it's a Plugin fail or an host problem
Re: BFD EcoYes, Andy, that's a good idea -- I also have and use Reaper, and there is no joy with it, either. I guess I will wait a few days, and then ask for my money back if the problem can't be sorted out.
Re: BFD EcoThese is the KVR profile of Angus fro FXpansion,he's quite friendly and I think if you PM him he can help you sort out these bug

Re: BFD EcoBFD works fine here on Win7, i installed it a few eeks back (the original version, not V2)
Windows 11 Home - 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400 2.50 GHz -32GB RAM
250GB SSD - 1TB HDD | M-Audio Oxygen 25 V
Re: BFD EcoThanks, fellows, I have no time for the next couple of days to wrestle with it, but I will head over to KVR on the morrow to see what's what.
Tomorrow I get to buy the Vienna Symphonic SE.
Re: BFD EcoDo share if it's good... and if it's not.
And by share, you know I mean post some sounds made with it, right? SoundCloud ::: Facebook
Re: BFD EcoWell...I've been doing the 50/90 challenge, which is soon ending...but mostly it's rock stuff or bad simple "classical." If you really feel that you must subject yourself to a bunch of half-produced things, here:
http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/user I will post BFD stuff when and if I figure out what I am doing wrong.
Re: BFD EcoIt requires a log in? Hmm. Well, that's no good.
Waiting for the VSO to arrive...very hard to wait...very hard...
