Well, that was fun - Plug-in Checker freakoutI have 3 different plugin folders, all on the C drive. I pointed the Checker to them, restarted the program, and finally had to restart the laptop after 10 minutes clicking out error messages for individual modules, mostly dehaupt and EVM. Maybe it's because of where I had them, maybe they have to be in Orions VST folder. Any comments?

I have plugins everywhere, some are on their own folders. I don´t have them in one folder because I use them on many applications, and for compatibility reason I choose to have them on several folders. I think the folder is not your problem, but maybe some plugin scan other folders when are initialized searching for banks, but this is solved reinstalling that plugin. "Pleeease, bring back ORION!"
Re: Well, that was fun - Plug-in Checker freakoutyou need to be more patient !
there is no problem to have 3 folders you can help plug checker by editing the vstcfg.txt files Yamaha CS-30, Roland SH-1, Roland MKS70, Focusrite Scarlett 18i6, Yamaha FS1R, Oberheim Matrix 1000, Novation Remote 37SL, Korg Legacy, Alesis M1Active 520, Novation Launchpad Pro, Push2, Intel i7-7700HQ
Re: Well, that was fun - Plug-in Checker freakout
IIRC, they are all synthedit plug-ins with extra prefabs installed with the dll. Have the dll's been disassociated from those extra files per chance? Note that even if the plug in checker crashes it will relaunch until all the plug ins have been checked and as Christophe says you can edit the vstconfig.txt file and add in the name of the dll (I think details are in the text file telling you how to label as instruments or effects). The checker is still launched but is somewhat quicker.
Re: Well, that was fun - Plug-in Checker freakoutThe guy's third day here and already.......
Anyway as they say you can edit the vst config file and manually add the name of the .dll if needed. For example you mentioned EVM synths it would be something like Ultrasoniqie.dll = 1 (1 is for Synths 0 is for Effects).
Re: Well, that was fun - Plug-in Checker freakout
Yes perhaps the folders that contain the extra .sem and .sep files have been moved or deleted? Although I assume those plugins worked with Moe's previous host?
Re: Well, that was fun - Plug-in Checker freakout
I don't think this is the problem. My plugins work fine in my other hosts(Energy XT & Sonar, though Sonar does block a few from working but not like this). "The Law speaks too softly to be heard amid the din of arms." -- Gaius Marius (Roman consul, soldier)
Re: Well, that was fun - Plug-in Checker freakoutThen give a try to adding the .dll's to the vstcfg file. I've had to do it before for some commercial synths (don't remember which ones) and it worked like a charm. Let us know if you need any help.
Re: Well, that was fun - Plug-in Checker freakoutWell, I tried to introduce some new VSTs to Orion. Same problem as before w/ the dhaupt modules, plus some others. I had to remove the Xoxos plugins I'd put in there. I think DSK is out, too. As a result of this, now none of the instruments in Orion are responding to my MIDI keyboard. There's a setting under OPT in the synths that says something like "ignore the MIDI keyboard" and it's checked. There's no option to uncheck. It's at the bottom of the list under OPT. Maybe that explains it, I dunno. Why is Orion so picky about 3rd party VSTS? Basically anything made with Synthedit is out on my Win 7 laptop. I got no clue. Btw, the microKEY still works great when I bring up Sonar so it's not the keyboard..

Re: Well, that was fun - Plug-in Checker freakoutI see some of the responses. Thanks, Teksonik. I'm afraid I'm not quite getting what you're saying. I don't know what a vstconfig file is or where it is and besides, a VST is a .dll already so I shouldn't have to add anything to it, right? What am I missing here?

Re: Well, that was fun - Plug-in Checker freakoutThe vstcfg file resides inside of the main Orion folder here on Win XP. Not sure if it's the same location for Win 7. You open it with Notepad and edit from there. Here's what it says in the vstcfg text:
"Add or remove items to speed up first launch and/or if there's problems with the 'auto-detection. This will force Orion to detect the DLLs as you want it. '0 means vst effect, 1 means vst instrument, -1 means not a VST plugin or known to be not compatible with Orion" Sometimes Orion's plugin checker just doesn't find a .dll I've had to manually add some in the past but I don't remember which ones. What is the name of one of the Synth Edit plugins that's not loading? I'll download it and try it here. By the way you're not running 64 bit are you?
Re: Well, that was fun - Plug-in Checker freakout
In the OPT of the synths themselves or in Orion? There's nothing I see in Orion like "Ignore Midi Keyboard". Make sure your midi device is still checked under Midi In Settings. Sometimes it will get unchecked if there is a crash.
I've got dozens of third part plugins running in Orion but I'll admit I rarely use Synth Edit plugins. Like I said above give me the name of one that's giving you trouble and I'll try it here.
Re: Well, that was fun - Plug-in Checker freakoutI had DSK Indian DreamZ, Asian DreamZ & World StringZ in there, I had Xoxos' Aurora, Swish2 & the Weaver Freq Shifter & Mod Delay & Mod Filter from his commercial bundle. I had Plex2 & Charlatan. The Plugin Checker just went nuts. Now none of Orion's generators respond to my Korg microKEY, even though it's selected correctly and I checked all 4 boxes in the MIDI Message Filter. Also, the light at the top of the screen blinks each time I press a key. I've rebooted Orion, rebooted my laptop, done everything except uninstall & reinstall, which I could do, I guess but I'd like to just solve the problem without doing that.

Re: Well, that was fun - Plug-in Checker freakoutOk so I've got Plex 2 and Charlatan running in Orion (there was an older version of Charlatan that didn't work well in Orion) so I know they will scan and load.
So the Midi Activity Indicator on the toolbar lights up so we know Orion is receiving midi data. What do the settings show in the Synth Options themselves? Something like this? Some of Orion's generators like the Grand Piano load up with the the Midi Channel set to off so it will not respond until you set it to match the channel your keyboard is sending or to Omni...If you are in Advanced Midi In Mode
Re: Well, that was fun - Plug-in Checker freakoutI can't add much to this to solve your porblem, other than to mention that I have lots of VSTs, (mainly free ones) installed including DSK and XOXOS ones, and they are all working fine. I'm still on XP though.
I very rarely have problems adding new vsts. the odd one just won't work, and some don't show up at first, but it's easily fixed. "I am the all-singing all-dancing crap of the world."
