Hello,
how can I install DUNE2 as admin/ for a non-admin admin rights user account?
With win7 and ableton I have an admin account and a "restricted rights" user account.
I do own the previous plugins Dune and EKS Pro.
The vst dlls are installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steinberg\VstPlugins\Synapse
Don't know if there were 64bit versions then.
For installation of DUNE2 i use admin rights, but then I cant see the dune2 plugin in ableton with my User account.
DUNE2 does work only in the admin account.
C:\Users\Admin\Documents\Synapse Audio\DUNE 2
To copy the folder into the User account didnt work out.
I think ableton didnt find the serial in the user account when it scanned for plugins.
Dont remember the exact message.
i checked the registry and compared the Dune vs the Dune2
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synapse Audio\DUNE
only one entry with a 1
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synapse Audio\DUNE 2
four entrys with i1, i2 MidiCC and MT
the uninstall.dat shows some text fragments and install paths.
I would like to run dune2 as a normal user, because all the other plugins did/do
run with that user account.
Which paths do I have to change or move?
Which registry things do I have to change?
I did install the demo version for a short time before, but did uninstall it. (admin account)
I did try to change the user acount to a full rights account... but dune2 will not be visible there.
wanted to switch it back then.
with the admin account I can see dune2 if i install it with admin-user-account.
when i switch to the real admin account the messages soundbank not fount and wavetable not found appear.
and a reinstall message.
*thanx for your help*
please fix the installation routine or it would be nice to tell me a workaround.

Re: Dune2 install as non adminDid you run the installer with admin rights? If yes, then you can only use Dune 2 from an admin account.
To use Dune 2 from a user account, the installer must be run from the user account as well. Admin - Synapse Audio Software

Re: Dune2 install as non admin
That's what I wanted to do. Install it with a user account. But it didnt work. Install Paths the isntaller required: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steinberg\VstPlugins\Synapse C:\Program Files (x86)\Steinberg\VstPlugins64\Synapse I couldn't disable the 64bit install path. Dont need it by now for my "ableton live" host (32bit). Error message: Create File failed; code 5. Access denied (german: zugriff verweigert)
i did try it with admin rights and it worked... Yes, I am aware of that i can then use Dune2 only with admin rights.... Thank you very much for your help/reply
Re: Dune2 install as non admin
I did try it with user rights and tested the following install paths on another drive: D:\Test dune ... dll has 12.533 kb (so its the 64bit version, which overwrote the 32bit one, ) D:\Test dune then i tested the following paths D:\Test dune ...dll has 12.240 kb D:\Test dune64 ... dll has 12.533 kb for vst 32 and 64 bit ... the installer did complete... oh wonder... It also did install the library to C:\Users\Username\Documents\Synapse Audio\DUNE 2 ... without problems... I did then copy the dune 2.dll (12.240kb) to the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steinberg\VstPlugins\Synapse folder But ableton live didn't show it, even after plugin rescan, in the plugin folder with user rights. I switched to the admin account, the dune2.dll did be visible. After starting it, the wavetable files and so on were prompted as missing. No wonder, I didnt install them, so i copied them to C:\Users\Admin\Documents\Synapse Audio\DUNE 2 After restart, I could use Dune2 with the admin account. So in the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Steinberg\VstPlugins\Synapse by now there are the following dlls: DUNE BE.dll (a german version from a musci magazin, which shows up in ableton) DUNE.dll (the first version of dune) EKS Pro.dll another dll (dont know exactly the purpose) So i by now dont know really, what to try next? I think i did for a long time install no vst plugins. but the other plugins i own didnt make such trouble with user rights. ok they at first did, but then "they were fixed" as far as I can remember this was one time. dont know if i am allowed to state the name of the plugin/company here. izo**** think i didnt change any folder setting, like write protected and so on. greets. **************************************************************** update: did copy the Dune 2.dll to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steinberg\VstPlugins and it works with user rights.... **************************************************************** update2: did move it to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steinberg\VstPlugins\Synapse2 was this a problem because of the "demo" installation...? did read something in the other english posts...??? ****************************************************************
Re: Dune2 install as non adminI tested it today with Live 9, works fine. If anyone else has trouble installing into a user account here's the exact steps I used, from the very beginning:
- Created restricted user account, named "testuser" - Downloaded & Installed Live 9 Trial (32-bit) - Created "testuser\documents\Ableton\VstPlugins" folder - Installed Dune 2 into that folder (since I'm testing 32-bit here, I hit "Ignore" when asked about 64-bit later) - Run Live 9 and then scan the above VstPlugin folder All programs/installers above must be run without admin rights (should be the default anyway). Thanks Richard. Have been trying to do this for the past 2 hours and your way worked first time. Wish I had found your post earlier. I usually recommend Proextender to friends.

Re: Dune2 install as non admincan any one pls explain to me on how to apply these methods to dune 2 with studio one 4 but on mac.
Re: Dune2 install as non adminInstallation with elevated rights and UAC are Windows-specific. It is neither possible nor necessary to do this on the Mac.
Btw if extra security is the reason to use UAC, it is important to realize that this is rather limited: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_Account_Control See the "Security" section. Admin - Synapse Audio Software
