I try to build a very simple multiple saw oscillator. Very easy to do in Sylenth like this:
1 Oscillator, 8 voices, everything to 0 except volume and pan (to the center). No filters, sustain 100%, everything else in the envelope to 0.
Now listen to the difference between Retrig on/off. If the retrigger is off, the phases will move against one another.
I tried this in Dune2:
Density 8, no filter, same envelope as sylenth.
I would think that the "reset" knob would have the same function as the "retrig" in sylenth. But I can't hear any effect. "Freq" only seems to have an effect when "sync" is activated. And it also sounds way different. There's no real phase movement. Is this a bug, or is there another way to get the phases moving?

Re: DUNE2: Multiple Saws in one OSC with moving phases?Hm. Forget it. For some reason it works now as expected...
Re: DUNE2: Multiple Saws in one OSC with moving phases?Actually, no.
I'm sure it must be possible to get the phases moving, but so far my results were suboptimal. What I'm doing so far is: Set VA Sync to "on". Turn the frequency a little up (about 10-15%). That's already quite nice. But too static. I tried to modulate the frequency with an LFO. Better. But still not as nice as Sylenth can do it. Any suggestions?
Re: DUNE2: Multiple Saws in one OSC with moving phases?
The 'reset' on DUNE 2 seems to be doing the same as the 'retrig' on Sylenth here, that is, resetting the phase to 0 everytime I hit a key. The 'sync' button is not made for phase movement....that button is for oscillator synchronization, a feature Sylenth doesn't have. Read the manual or take a look a this on the Internet. If you want to move the phases, as you would do it on the phase knob on Sylenth, you have to do it with the modulation matrix 'Osc init phase' destination. But...I'm not sure if I understood the problem correctly
Re: DUNE2: Multiple Saws in one OSC with moving phases?
Thanks, but it doesn't seem to have any other effect than on/off. I tried with a "Const" source and move the amount around and with an LFO, but there's no movement...
Just recreate my example in DUNE2 and Sylenth and toggle retrig/reset on both. You will hear the difference. Last edited by drishti on Mon May 26, 2014 1:43 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: DUNE2: Multiple Saws in one OSC with moving phases?
That's because it only sets the starting phase. What is wrong with applying an lfo to osc fine tune? Also, you could make a wavetable whereby each cycle has a different phase.
Re: DUNE2: Multiple Saws in one OSC with moving phases?
Yes, I did. I don't hear any difference. They seem to be doing the same ('voices' to 8 on S1 --> 'density' to 8 on D2; phase to 0 on both; 'detune' to 0 on both; 'stereo' to 0 on S1 --> 'spread' to 0 on D2; same envelopes; toggle 'retrig' on and off on S1 --> toggle 'reset' on and off on D2...they sound the same to my ears, aside for a little volume difference, D2 is louder at default init settings but you can match it with the master volume)
Re: DUNE2: Multiple Saws in one OSC with moving phases?I just created a fresh project to record the differences to audio... aaand: There were none.
I'm confused. I'll take a closer look tomorrow. But it's very likely that I messed up somewhere.
