I'm having CPU problems with Dune 2 v2.04.
What is the ideal machine spec for having a good time with Dune 2?
I've got a MacBook Pro, running Mavericks, with 16G of RAM. I've tried it in the latest builds of Cubase, Live and Logic. There are patches that bring my computer to it's knees.
What do I need. A brand new Mac Pro tower?
Just curious what people are using to make patches like this?
Thanks!

Re: Dune 2 CPU expectations?
It's has nothing to do with your OS, Ram or Host but the power of your CPU. I'm running DUNE 2 just fine on a Q6600 Quad Core and it's never been brought to it's knees but of course D2 runs much better on my i7 3770K.
Re: Dune 2 CPU expectations?Where do I get v2.07?
I've got a 2.3 GHz i7 - shouldn't that be enough?
Re: Dune 2 CPU expectations?I have 3632qm i7 2.2 and in live i get about 5-35% load with one instance depending on the patch. I'm on win8.1
In the user service area...just dl-ed it myself.
Re: Dune 2 CPU expectations?Yeah - I noticed the updated download too. I'm going to be working with it today.
Re: Dune 2 CPU expectations? It depends a lot on how Dune 2 is used- some patches consume only a few percent of the CPU. In general the amount of voices and the polyphony determines the CPU load. My old core duo mini mac can still handle several Dune 2 instances at low latency (playing back simple random sequences), plus a lot of other plugins running simultaneously so I think it's probably possible to work with it - even more so when using freeze/bounce. But since most producers probably do more complex stuff or have higher demands we chose a quad core i5 as the minimum system requirements. If this still gives issues, then chances are that the voice count / polyphony is just too high. Near the end of the included PDF manual there's a chapter about optimizing performance with a couple of additional tips
