Re: DUNE 2 - Envelopes / Punchy BassesI think we can all agree that if someone can't get good basses out of DUNE 2 it has nothing to do with the "snappiness" of envelopes..........
Re: DUNE 2 - Envelopes / Punchy Basses

Re: DUNE 2 - Envelopes / Punchy BassesI haven't had my coffee yet.................... ...............
EDIT: Ok now that I've had a few cups of coffee and the desire to commit genocide is slightly mitigated......... It's just that I've seen the "Snappy Envelope" argument presented before as thinly veiled "hardware is better, software sucks" nonsense..... Not saying that's the case here but I've grown suspicious of the Snappy Envelope crowd..........
Re: DUNE 2 - Envelopes / Punchy Basses
Not really. Some have diff curves (lin/log/expo) The pro one has the best envs for percussive sounds Bass wise, as long as you can sync osc phase you short be ok. (Specifically for fast basslines with short notes) Windows 11 Home - 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400 2.50 GHz -32GB RAM
250GB SSD - 1TB HDD | M-Audio Oxygen 25 V
Re: DUNE 2 - Envelopes / Punchy BassesYou know what I'm saying..........most people wouldn't know a Snappy Envelope from a Postal Envelope.........
Like I said it's one of those terms like Analog Warmth that people incessantly trot out and really can't define. At any rate I think we can agree that DUNE 2's envelopes are snappy enough for "Fat Bass" sounds ("Fat" being another one of those terms).....
Re: DUNE 2 - Envelopes / Punchy BassesNo, that's Phatt goddammit!!

Re: DUNE 2 - Envelopes / Punchy Basses@Kriminal
Thanks for the patch. It is a nice punchy bass, but in comparison to my Virus a i must say that it cannot compete. Not only that it is much harder to find a good adjustment on the envelopes in DUNE 2, the virus also just has more punch without having to sync the oscillator's phases.
Re: DUNE 2 - Envelopes / Punchy BassesBut i just found a patch from the factorysound bank (Klick Bass RH), which uses MSEG's to generate the punchy sounds. I have played around with the MSEG curves and it sounds fantastic!

Well, it took me all of 30 seconds to make Windows 11 Home - 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400 2.50 GHz -32GB RAM

Re: DUNE 2 - Envelopes / Punchy Basses
Directed at me? I hope not.
Re: DUNE 2 - Envelopes / Punchy Basses
No no not directed at you in the least bit. Aimed at the general population. I've seen people use the term "Snappy Envelopes" many times at KVR but I doubt they could give a mathematical definition of "snappy". Like I said it's usually a thinly veiled attack at Soft Synths...........
Re: DUNE 2 - Envelopes / Punchy Basses
Can you post a sample of an example of a Virus patch that shows this?
Re: DUNE 2 - Envelopes / Punchy Basses
Case in point............
Re: DUNE 2 - Envelopes / Punchy BassesBut the Virus is a soft synth. It just needs an oversized dongle to run it
Re: DUNE 2 - Envelopes / Punchy BassesI prefer to use MSEG envelopes to modulate filter frequency. I find the dedicated Filter Envelope too limiting.
Also having two different MSEG envelopes modulating filter results in good "snaps" and plucks.
