'Free-running' phase

Postby Yorrrrrr » Fri May 22, 2015 7:13 pm

Can somebody help me in how can I set the oscillators phase in free-running mode in DUNE 2?

Thanks,

That question doesn't make any sense to me. Can you rephrase it please?

I mean it's either free running or it is of a certain phase. It can't be both.

I see 3 possible phase behaviors: 1) Random; 2) Reset (initial phase set); 3) The so called 'free-running' (Spire's ANA).

How can I replicate Spire's ANA switch in DUNE 2?

I'm probably being thick here, but could you explain a bit more what the difference is between 1 and 3 in your post above? I don't get it atm!

Meh..whatever.

If you are still interested, just try Spire and take a look at what the 'ANA' switch does. Thanks Mark.

i'm agree with Kriminal but perhaps, Yorrrrrr wants a kind of random phase at the start and after, on every notes, the phase doesn't start randomly but continue where it stop, i don't know if people understand me
(serum and hive have that, but i don t have spire,so....,in hive the name is"flow")
i think, we don t have this feature in dune2

Mm random to osc init phase
Or constant to osc init phase

None of them do what the ANA switch in Spire and other synths that try to emulate analog synths do (like BlauKraut Engineering's Charlatan). It's like a slow virtual master sine LFO is on the background modulating the phase. The phase when hitting a key is then determined by the point in which that virtual LFO is in its cycle. So it's not completely random.

Dune oscillators are already free running.
To sync em to key you need to hit the sync button on each osc window.
For that rusty old osc drift you can drop a slow lfo onto
Each osc fine at 5% or so to get the warming/cooling detuning effect.

Dune 2 oscillators are indeed free-running but they "run" differently...

Spire has similar running phase like Virus Ti, its not as random and unpredictable as Dune 2 is.

Virus Ti and Spire phase running is predictable even tho its free. Besides that theyr behaviour makes this pleasant flange effect.

I made a small comparison, 1st Virus Ti. 2nd Spire. 3rd Dune 2. Then repeated all in same order (because they can sound different each time).

What i did is i ran each synth with 2 oscillators running and detuned a little bit each synth's 2nd oscillators.

This is what you get:

As you can see Dune 2 Free runing oscillator behaviour is very different.

can't you do that with the mod matrix ?
a lfo modulating the phase should provide you what you want
