Concerned about future updates

Postby harry2011 » Sat May 23, 2015 11:46 pm

Hi

I'm still using Orion v 6.2 with Windows XP.

Soon I want to update my pc.. And am concerned whether Orion 6.2
will still run seemlessly with Windows 7 or 8 ???

Can anyone offer advice based on their own experience..

Many thanks

No idea but you should upgrade to 8.5. There were many many improvements. As Orion will most probably not be developed any further, you should get at least the latest version.

There is really no way for anyone to how 6.2 will run for you under Win7/8. What is inevitable is that it will stop working eventually with some future version of Windows.

I was just hoping someone would remember what happened, when they moved from XP
while using ver 6 of Orion. Guess I'm out of luck..lol

Actually I'm still pretty happy with my old set-up.. But my pc is pretty old now, and I have to anticipate
it dying sometime. Luckily I do back up regularly.

If I can't install my old Orion 6.2 on a new machine.. or if it doesn't perform with Windows 7, 8, whatever..
then (as money is tight), I may have to move to another soft-studio. That would be odd after using Orion for
the past decade !

But as we all know.. Time marches on and waits for no-one ;)

Actually ver 6 is enough for me. Good thing.. because money is tight.
I know for sure my beloved old pc won't last too much longer.. so I'm going to have to shell out for
a new pc. Upgrading Orion in addition means even more money.. (sigh)

Parting with Orion after all these years (if I had to) would be weird !!!

BTW I thought Orion was still being developed.. just without a firm schedule/time-line for release.
I'm sure I read that Rich was considering re-writing from scratch as the original code is so old now.
I could be wrong.. I don't keep up here very much.

I just downloaded and tested 6.2 on my work machine, which is Win7 64. Installation is fine. However, it wouldn't accept my password for Orion Platinum (5.5 and 6.2), but did for version 7. Once I worked that out everything was hunky dory.

Anyway it looks like Mark got it running but had to use a version 7 serial number. Maybe send a PM or e-mail to Rich and see if he can help.......... :)
