Dune midi settings (manual 3.2 page 15)

Postby insaner » Sun Jun 21, 2015 4:04 pm

Hi all,

I am a bit new to dune and all the audio stuff.
So dont bite to hard will ya :P

I want to control some parameters in the main GUI i am referring to the manual 3.2 page 15
Settings :

Volume
Filter
Env amount
Pitchbend(curve)

Is this automate-able or can i control it with midi cc or assign it to a hardware controller knob?
I like to open the filter this way ipv the cutoff .
Same goes for Pitchbend en ENV amount en Volume it creates the sound i want.
Not just using the other parameters.

On a different synth i had the same problem. Maybe i need to change how i work but i tried i cant get the same results.
The only option i have left is to control it with mouse and record it (oldskool style)

I hope anyone has a tip or a recommendation or maybe even a solution for these midi value (automate/ctrl) problems.

You want to Automate the amount of control Velocity has on Vol Pan Filter and Env Amount ? So you want to modulate the amount of modulation ? :)

don't mean to hijack this thread, but which volume do I assign to mseg to control master volume. I coose the one with volume, but with the mseg at 0 flat curve, I still hear a lot of sound>>>Sorry if simple question....

That's how I read it. If so, then use mod matrix position as a destination should work, e.g.,

Velocity 0 Cutoff
Mod wheel 100 Mod matrix 1

Not able to check atm, so the entry names might be a bit different.

This doesn't work as expected. Use Amp Env amount for this.

If i open the pitchbend curve and filt env with the volume the sound opens up better than just with cutoff or modulating the cutoff in the matrix.

So if i could automate those parameters...
I tried it with midi cc but nothing works.
I can only change those values with my mouse.
The values are static thats not want i want.
I want to control it.

Maybe i should make a video then u hear the difference or u get my point maybe.
I think a little bit out the box maybe...

Those settings can't be automated. That just sets how much Note On Velocity effects the selected parameter. :)

You can change settings for how much pitch bend you get in the mod matrix. You can also MIDI learn the amount parameter for each slot so that you can change them on the fly by right hand clicking with the mouse. Same goes for AmpEnv to control volume and FiltEnv. The velocity settings in the settings tab are just a quick way of setting up these common modulation options without taking up mod matrix slots.

Thanks for your insights, how do i have to set things up?
Is it like :
Code: Select all
Source            AMT              Destination
AmpENV                              Volume
AmpENV                              Filter (or Filter ENV??)
Modweel                             Velocity
Modweel                             Pitchbend

I am gonna try ASAP.

AmpEnv is hard coded to volume, but you can set AmpEnv as a destination, make sure to set the Knob on the GUI to zero or whatever else makes sense. For the velocity entries, do as I suggested above. Your AmpEnv setting for filter would work, but remember that FiltEnv is hard coded to filter so you would need to turn that down.

English is not my native language, forgot to mention that but maybe u noticed it all ready.
Hard coded is just like with EEPROM chips and stuff = not changeable right?
Why would u hard-code some beautiful parameters, they are waiting to be released :music:

Can u understand my point Mark? i know (or actually i don't know) if its something else technical.
I hope u can explain it for me or ask the devs or coders who build Dune from the ground.
I really would love to know because i had this also with another amazing synth (hardware).

Goodnight!
