Drumrack Wishlist -- VstiWould be nice to see the drumrack as a vsti with some improvements. For starters, an mseg could replace most of the decay, start time, etc knobs. It could be placed where the waveform view is. Also a randomized function for each of the cells. More in depth..
I would like to make a drum kit from my own wave files. I would like to set up some "pads" or cells (or however each wave is loaded to be triggered by midi) to each a specifiable folder. Master R(button) to Randomly select waves from each pad ( which each can have an assignable folder) Pad 1 (folder -tim's samples/clap) R(button) to Select Random Wave from folder Pad 2 (folder- tim's samples/kick) R(button) to Select Random Wave from folder Pad 3 (folder - tim's samples/hat) R(button) to Select Random Wave from folder etc I want to assign a folder to a pad and randomize the wave selected. I want to also have a master random so it will randomly select a wave from each of the pads selected folders. The idea is that I can click the master r button to load waves from each of the folders assigned to them. Then whatever pad/s don't sound good together I can randomize that folder only until something good comes up. I know asking for improvements to only the orion drumrack as it is inbuilt to the daw might be pointless, so a vsti version would do. As far as I know, no drum kit vsti has this function, and if its kept simple, could be quite usable. The drumrack as it is, is very nice. Would be nice to see a suped up modern version of this released as vsti. Maybe even combine it into a hybrid drum creator/sampler, where the creation part could be combined eks, xr-909, tomcat, etc and could also load samples like the drum rack.
Re: Drumrack Wishlist -- VstiI like the Drumrack as VSTi.
Actually is the only Orion "built-in" instrument I use in all my projects. The "Cut Track" feature is extremely usefull because you can forget to do extra automations (which sometimes in Orion could be painfull) or avoid external sidechain (take less CPU resources). "Pleeease, bring back ORION!"
Re: Drumrack Wishlist -- VstiCorrection, I mentioned no vsti drum kit could do the randomize thing, but I was mistaken. Seems xfer nerve has that covered. Playing around with it and it is neat. Just wish it had some internal fx i could trigger in it with its built in sequencer. Add that to wishlist, some fx into the drumrack and each have its own sequencer like it is triggering the samples. Retrigger would be nice too.
There is a way to trigger external fx within nerve, however, I am unsure how I would route something like that in orion. It mentions it at 8 min in this video. Any ideas? is it possible? Maybe with the sidechain input? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYfde2JE_yk
Re: Drumrack Wishlist -- VstiRandom kits? No thanks. I spend time making sure all my samples are organised and picking the right samples for the job.

Re: Drumrack Wishlist -- Vsti
I've sifted through 10's of thousands of single hits, and made my own folders. I have all the best ones I've collected over the years in there own folders, kick, clap, hats, etc. Are they still random then? Every one of those hits are good and already went through the screening process, often a few times. Once you have lots of sounds already sorted, all sound good, and it doesn't matter even if you randomly arrange them, it will still sound good. What I don't like doing is opening the folders 16 times for the drum rack, when it is usually just the first one or two that sound good and I use. Have them all load for me at once in from there folders, hit master random, what singles ones doesn't fit I can click a random or next button. Makes sense to me. Already doing this in nerve and the results are brilliant. Moreso, that I thought. I usually never, ever like 100 random, not in presets, arpeggiators, etc, but even though I'm hitting a random button, since its already sorted, its not so random and its only a point of finding the samples that go well together, which is a matter of luck really. Even if you have the best samples off hand, they don't necessarily go well with each other.
Re: Drumrack Wishlist -- Vsti
Yeah, the cut track is briliant. I would also like to see a built in sc compressor too if possible. Select one of the cells to gate the others would be nice.
Re: Drumrack Wishlist -- Vsti
None of that makes any sense and is mostly contradictory OTOH, I do like the idea, but only with very closely related samples. Basically, a round robin.
Re: Drumrack Wishlist -- Vsti
It only makes sense if they are closely related samples. Like i said, they are in there own folders, all my claps, kicks, rims, shanres, hats, etc have there own folder. If each cell has its own folder, if you randomize, the same midi will be triggering the kicks, claps etc as it did for the previous samples. It only changes the samples. Are you thinking I have all my samples jumbled in one folder and clicking randomize? No.
Re: Drumrack Wishlist -- VstiFor round robin i have BFD
for Electronic kits i prefer to pick my own. I know all my kits and it takes no time at all to find sounds manually. Windows 11 Home - 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400 2.50 GHz -32GB RAM

Re: Drumrack Wishlist -- Vsti
Then do that, I do that too, but there is a place for loading all 16 cells at once. Takes one second, while opening 16 folders and sifting through a few that sound good would take 5-10m at best. After a while, the kit's i created sound the same-ish to an extent, while using this random selection method I have kits easily that I'd never think to create. Well in any case, to each there own. Also, as far as drum vsti go, I think addictive drums is superb. I can easily and fast tweak an acoustic kick into an electronic one. Here is an example of a random kit made in nerve. http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?fi ... 6384896662 Sorry, out of minutes on my free sc account..
Re: Drumrack Wishlist -- VstiYes, I understood that you have separate folders for different hits, but where do you start and stop? Being conservative and with all the possible kicks one can have you'd need more than 10 folders of related sounds just for those. Multiply that by 16 then that's 160 folders. Ridiculous. And that is assuming there are only 16 types of percussion hits in the world.
Why on earth would Richard and Marcin waste time on that? Make osp files of all your hits and use them in the sampler. You'll have even more fun that way.
Re: Drumrack Wishlist -- VstiFTR I use synths to make my drum sounds now. I'm a purist you see
Re: Drumrack Wishlist -- Vsti
Please explain why this is contradictory.
Re: Drumrack Wishlist -- Vsti
I don't understand what you mean here, in the scenario each cell could be linked to any folder.
Again, at a loss here, why would it even matter if I do have 10 folders for kicks? Thats irrelevant to the task I want to do. A cell that I wanted to trigger kicks would only be attached to whatever folder of only kicks I point it to-- why would it matter about the other kick folders? Are you talking about a waste of time to organize your samples? To create 160 folders? That isn't necessary unless you want to do that. If you already have your best stuff organized then no work is needed to use this method. Does that sound like too much work too you? I'm sorry, I just don't understand your gripe here to my request. Am I the only one here who has taken the time to sift through all the drum hits and puts only the best ones in folders?
This, is just no, no way bro. I'd have to have dozens of samplers just to make one kit. Are you talking about a round robin with all kicks loaded up in the sampler? I haven't tried that, will see how that goes. I like that idea. But for constructing kits, I don't like the ideas of using samplers at all. Why are you saying its a waste of time. I gave extremely logical and reasonable reasons why and how this could speed up workflow enormosously. Apparantely, the creators of nerve don't think its a waste of time and see the creative uses of it since it made it into nerve. Well, in any case, I'm having great fun with the nerve doing this, hence the continued request to see something similar in drumrack.
Re: Drumrack Wishlist -- VstiJust tried messing with round robin and adding multiple kicks, man that thing is buggy. It crashed on me like 5 times so far. I managed to add like 5 kicks, but somehow each sample gets paned left or right? What's up with that?
