DUNE 2.5 released

Postby Richard » Sat Dec 19, 2015 1:41 am

Dune 2.5 is now available :) This is an major update, free of charge for all Dune 2 users, and as usual can be downloaded from our support area:
http://www.synapse-audio.com/support.html

The following briefly describes what's new:

New Patches

The factory library has been extended to a total of 500 patches. The list of new patches can be found here:
http://www.synapse-audio.com/public/dun ... atches.pdf

Furthermore, as a little xmas gift, we added 250 Ambient patches by sound designer Armin Malbertz. The set is split into two parts A and B and can be accessed by clicking on "Soundbank". So the total number of patches that DUNE 2 comes with is now 750.

New Envelopes

The Filter ADSR section in version 2.5 gains an "Analog" switch, which uses a novel circuit-simulated envelope model for the filter and amplitude envelope. The circuit model is based on discrete vintage-analog electronics, and models the envelope with a very high accuracy.

The difference is usually best audible with fast attack times, where it creates a very "snappy" envelope. As an example patch, try the new patch "Precision Trance KS" then turn on/off the analog envelope to hear what it does to the sound.

New Filters

We added two new filter models named "Expander", a 12 dB type and a 24 dB type. What's different is that those filters are oversampled and can deal with saturation/drive much better than the previous filters. They also feature an improved resonance behavior above 10 khz and were designed to work best with the new analog envelopes.

AAX Version

Dune 2.5 is our first plugin that comes with an AAX version for ProTools 64-bit, both Mac and Windows. Please note that ProTools 11 or higher is required to run the AAX version of Dune 2.5.

Thank you for this update!

I love new filters and analog mode, they give more life :) it should be on by default :D

Dont want to nag or anything, but what happened to promised wavetable editor ? :)

edit:

huge thanks again for the filters, ive tried to play around with them and new envelopes on patches ive made, man with those on those patches are singing! im so happy! :)

Also new patches are really great! Especialy sequences and pads ;)

And Ambient patches are amazing! Even tho i make dance music but having those in breakdowns certainly is great :) thank again :)

Now if there only be a tagging system for favorite patches... :D

Great! Love the new envelopes! Finally it's possible to create decent psytrance basses with Dune2.

First,

Thank you very much for such a great free update! Some great new patches, filters and envelopes!
Much appreciated

...I hate to ask but i also wonder what´s about the mysterious wave table editor. It´s holding me really back to create patches.
At least i would like to hear a "yes" or "no" about it, so i can forget about it finally.
For me the wavetable OSC is the biggest and most interesting part of Dune 2.
However, thank´s again and i wish you all the best for the family and much success next year!
Cheers!

I dont see what the fuss is about. There are a ton of free WT's around for Dune. I bet if you made a patch and swapped the wave 15 times the sonic diff would be negligable for a specific sound. (ie vox sounds, piano sounds, etc etc)

You pretty much have all you need already.

Rich has said the WT editor will come 'later'. In the meantime, make patches, not excuses.

Maybe you don´t see it but that doesn´t mean others do think the same. For me the main part is morphing from a waveform to another and the different is huge for me.
Maybe you have all you need, i do not :)

Well i have the editor, so yes, i have all i need and more...but even morphing is covered very well with whats available.... explain to me whats missing that is a show stopper for you. What cant you currently do?

Sure i can do already a lot and i always praised Dune 2 everywhere for it´s sound but that doesn´t mean i could not imagine more and would like to experiment more, even when it´s just for my personal use.
If we all would think we have everything we need we would live still in caves.
Even a 5 buck synth on my iPhone can do nearly "everything" which would be enough for the consumer listener. But that means nothing.
