Recently I discovered some old late 70s/early 80s music I hadn't known existed. First I got Modern Eon's one and only album, Fiction Tales, and through that discovered Opposition and Sad Lovers & Giants (SLAG). Modern Eon are great, so much like a whole heap of bands I used to go and see live in the early 80s. The other two bands are in a similar vein but they have more extensive collections and don't quite work as well for me. Opposition remind me of very early Killing Joke with a bit of Gang of Four thrown in. There first 4 albums are great but their later stuff is bit too commercial sounding for me. SLAG sound a bit like a poppier pre-Smiths, the singer sometimes sounds exactly like Morrisey, but they are quite poppy so I don't like it quite as much as the others. Overall, though, that's 8 albums of decent music from bands I had no idea existed until a couple of months ago, which is an absolute treasure trove for me.

I also recently got the new Pete Murphy album, made with Youth from Killing Joke. It's a tough call but I think it is Murphy's best solo album. It prompted me to buy the previous one, Ninth, too, and it is almost as good but in a completely different way. Ninth is very much a rock band album, where the new one, Lion, is a lot more considered, with Youth's production working with Murphy's vocals to perfection. Both are really good, though.

Listening to the VCMG album on vinyl... Ssss. Its got an amazing sound/production. Really great laidback techno. Simple but effective. Best electronic album in the last ten years IMO.

It looks like they paid the artwork designer in ice cream.
