Dune2 - mono sound and envelopes

Postby ukm » Sun Oct 08, 2017 8:12 pm

I just tried to recreate a sync lead sound from one of my hardware devices with dune 2.
I play a low key with the left hand and then some higher keys with the right hand - when I release the right hand the held low key is triggered again - but the filter and amp envelopes are not triggered new with the last used velocity.
Any idea how this could be achieved?

It must retrigger the envelopes, it only shouldn't do that in legato mode.
Can you upload the patch so I/we can have a look on it? You can even modify it if you want to keep it secret, as long as the behaviour occurs on it.

Edit: What do you exactly mean by the last used velocity. Is your problem that mono mode doesn't retrigger the envelopes at all, or that it doesn't retrigger velocity values that you've routed to the envelopes?

Yes correct the Mono mode (not Legato) should do this and retrigger all envelopes.

Yes, I have mono mode and the envelopes are retriggered but not with the last velocity used on the higher key.
The sound is velocity dependent and it gives a nice effect when bouncing back to the low key. On my hardware it can be played very dynamically and depending on the velocity there is always a different result. With Dune2 it seems that the low key is always triggered with the velocity that has been used when triggering the low key the first time. This doesn't sound as interesting as I achieved it with the hardware.
An example is attached. Thanks for your help so far.
Hmm - attachment didn't work - .fxp is not allowed.

I made a short sequence with that sound (sounds not fully matched yet). Please take a listen how the sound behaves when it bounces back from the released high key to the held low key.

It would actually really be easier if you'd share the patch, to have a look at your programming and then think about how a solution could be achieved. I have a vague imagination but too few, to give an advice or idea yet.

OK - here is the current version I used in the example:

Okay so I've tried a bit with MSEGs and other stuff, had a look at the manual and for this particular behaviour I don't think it's avaible this way in Dune 2 and is something special from your synth.

But what you can do is, releasing the last (high) note before playing the low note again so you can transmit a new velocity information the way you want it to get triggered. If this results hasn't enough "bounce" for you and you work in your DAW and live playing is not so important, you could set up a second instance of Dune 2 with the same patch, increase the glide amount on the synth and only use this one for the highest and then lowest note, the jumps, while playing all other sequences in between with the original patch.

That's the best idea I have so far to get to the closest result. Nice patch by the way :)

Thanks for your help so far. That was my conclusion too.
In mono mode there must be an envelope (for filter and amp) that is retriggered even when a key is released as long as there is another key held at the same time but with the velocity of the last key.
Don't know if this makes sense for the developers (may be a "mono2" mode that takes care of the velocity when retriggering the envelopes).

Currently I play in a jazzrock band so this is probably not so important but it may be interesting for solo stuff (if not all players use the same wellknown sounds).
