Portable software - Plugin Gestions & Other...Hi everybody, every time I try some demo and trial plugins with Windows, but the endless annoyance is always to find myself folders even after their uninstallation ... The "damned" Windows system registry makes reappear and return any file and folder that entered into its operating system, even after being uninstalled ... and this is obvious even though there are several software that promise infallible cleaning ... I currently have Bulk Crap Uninst. - IoBit Uninstaller - and in the past I also started CCleaner ... But in the end everything comes back and comes back ... Windows is really unbearable with its infinite folders that appear in every remote corner of the operating system ... Bisongna always search for them manually, delete them and then delete the keys in the system registry (always manually). Sometimes it works ... But in rare cases though ... For this I find and often go to the search for portable programs, because some really keep everything in that single folder ... Not all but some work really well. And for this operating system is a real "salvation" ... There are also many plugins in simple format (.dll) and this is really blessed, but I notice that they are always few ... So I wonder why there is a ( I think) poor vision in creating plugins and portable software for Windows? Also is there a software that I can manage in a more rational way the large plugins that can be installed inside Windows? Some time ago I also tried to rely on virtualization, but it takes very powerful computers to run an operating system well in another operating system ... What do you think? Thank you.
Re: Portable software - Plugin Gestions & Other...I've never had this problem. I uninstall things and that's it, they are uninstalled. Maybe there are a few folders left lying around but why would anyone care about that? Turn off "Show system files" and you'll never see them again.

Re: Portable software - Plugin Gestions & Other...Never have stuff returning on their own. I've had uninstallers failing because of corruption, but IOuninstaller solved all of that so far.
The reason you don't see many portable things might be because usually they have more than just one file (a .dll) that need to go in quite specific places. Take DUNE, for example. For it to be portable, you need to place the .dll file, and then put wavetables, skins and all the presets into specific folder structure into your Documents folder - ALL MANUALLY. In cases like that, using an installer is just much easier. SoundCloud ::: Facebook
Re: Portable software - Plugin Gestions & Other...The problem with portable software is how do you copy protect something that can be moved everywhere and anywhere without authorization ?
I know Reaper can run off of a thumb drive so it can be done. But I don't remember any music software coming back after uninstalling. Now Security Software is another matter. I tried to get rid of Norton when my license expired and it kept coming back and trying to reinstall until I found a hidden .exe tucked away in a dark corner of my hard drive. As for junk that's left over if you care about keeping your work machines clean and tight then it wouldn't hurt to manually delete files that are not needed. That's one of the main advantages of having a separate internet/test machine to try out demos and betas so only the software you know you'll be keeping ever makes it on to your studio computer. I'm thinking about picking this up for under $110: Dell Off Lease i5 You can still "upgrade" from Win 7 Pro to Win 10 Pro for free (just did it on another system and it works). It's only an i5 system but it will be perfect to replace this i3 which I have stuffed to the gills with demos and betas and all manner of freebies. That sloppy practice has begun to impact its stability as it just hard crashed while I was on the crapper this morning nowhere near the computer. Anyway my point is that it's a great idea to have a second system to keep your studio computer off the internet (except for copy protection handshakes and plugin updates) and allows you to test everything out before moving it to the studio. If it works on the lower powered machine it's guaranteed to work many times better on the more powerful studio system. Highly recommended practice.
Re: Portable software - Plugin Gestions & Other...Thanks to all of you for the interesting comments ... yes, actually a second computer, to be kept as "bad copy", could be the solution to test all the demo products ...
