Can't open Orion!!

Postby Sunbay » Fri May 31, 2019 7:27 pm

Hi guys, had a problem with my motherboard, needed to replace it, slightly better, problem is, Orion doesn't open. Already uninstalled it and re-installed it and still nothing!
Can you help?

Did you just click on the desktop icon and nothing happened or did you get an error message or ?

Did you try going into Program Files (x86)/Orion and clicking on the Orion64.exe just to make sure it's not an issue with the desktop icon ?

Did you change Anti-Virus or Security software in the process ?

There's no error message, nothing. Even trying to open it as admistrator doesn't do a thing.
Same as in Program Files.
Didn't changed nothing in the anti-virus aswell.

This is really puzzling me! I can't think of anything that could have happened for it not to open!

Hmmm let's see what could cause a simple .exe not to open ? So the only thing you changed was your motherboard and CPU chip ? No new graphics card ? Any unusual Windows Scaling settings ? Windows 7 set up exactly as it was before, same version number, same admin privileges ?

I'm out of ideas what it could be. Orion 8.6 has installed and worked on everything from WinXP to Win 10 here on multiple different systems with a wide range of CPU chips, video cards etc.

I'm afraid this is one for Rich or Marcin to address. :?

Yep, everything's as it's used to be except for motherboard. Games and other software work fine.
Really getting frustrated here...

when you reinstalled, did you have to enter the serial number?

maybe a registry problem, you could unistall, clear relevant reg info, then install again

Yes, had to put in serial number.
I've been searching the net for some info, it seems to be registry issues..

ok, so clearing the reg should sort it

open up regedit and look for synapseaudio/orion and delete the folder

Well guys, nothing worked... i think the solution here is to do a backup of my stuff, format and install everything!
But thanks for the feedback!

Maybe it's time to use a DAW that's not abandoned ? This issue is a perfect example of why. Synapse isn't going to help with the issue.

Plugin developers are not going to worry about supporting an obscure abandoned DAW.

I know a handful of people are still using Orion and I still have it installed but I just don't see the logic in using something that will never be updated or will never be fixed if there is an issue in the future.

Yes we all love Orion but the developers have left it behind....it's probably not a bad idea for us to do the same.

Orion does not care about Motherboard changes, and it runs on pretty much any CPU / Windows OS released since about 2000, that is any CPU which supports SSE, as well as Windows XP and higher.

So there must be something else that has changed, my first guess would be the audio driver (maybe due to the new motherboard something was automatically installed?).
