Hi guys,
Your OBX-a emulation sounds good on first tour, but I can't help noticing the total lack of soundbanks for it. Even the number of presets is depressingly small compared to other VSTs (not necessarily OBX emulations).
Not to name competition directly, but they have many sounbanks, showing off popular Oberheim patches from bands like Rush, Queen and so on.
For a trial version, this will be an absolute MUST. I can't possibly, only during the trial, reproduce patches like The Camera Eye from Rush, and to be honest, if your synth can't do this one...
At this point, I'll let some time pass by and see what you decide to do about this.
If you want to reach out to serious buyers, you'll have to do better in order to demonstrate the features and possibilities of Obsession cause the sound engine appears to be very good.
Thank you.

Re: Obsession soundbanksOBsession has only been out for a short while. Give it time for third party sound designers to make banks.
Here's one already: https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopi ... 7&t=548813 Here are some free patches contributed by OBsession users and/or contributors to the factory bank: https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopi ... 7&t=547982 https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopi ... 7&t=547963
Why ? Doesn't the trial version work for a month ? To be honest the Camera Eye sound is pretty simple and if you can't do this one... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yz1YqaI-fVw
Re: Obsession soundbanksHi,
Funny you mention this YouTube video because it demoes the OP-X II PRO Camera Eye patch that comes out of the box with that VST synth. I already own the OP-X II PRO, and it comes with dozens of popular patches. They are not 3rd party patches that I had to wait for in order to make my decision to purchase or not. In any case, where is this idea coming from that if you enjoy playing synths, you absolutely must know how to program them as well? Can't I just be a player? Yes, it's a month, but between work, family, and the rest... Maybe if I was still living in my parents' basement. I own Dune, and this is the first time I have to interact with this forum, and so far the answers make me feel like I'm some dumbass. Thanks guys, quite a vibrant welcoming community you've got going here.
Re: Obsession soundbanksHey I took time out of my day to help you with links to additional free patches made by some of the people who provided factory content.
You're welcome. I'm just a satisfied owner of OBession. I don't speak for Synapse Audio. Coming in here with an abrasive and insulting attitude hardly makes you part of a "vibrant welcoming community" I'm so sorry the OBsession Demo doesn't give you the exact patches you want. The Demo is limited to 46 patches but the full version has 420 and the additional banks bring it closer to 600.
Re: Obsession soundbanksAfter I've released "Dark Cyberpunk" and "Mega City Six" for Dune 2 & 3 and currently being busy working on a new Cyberpunk soundset for Arturia's synth Pigments, I do plan to grab Obsession after that and create a brand new cyberpunk soundset for it. Can't tell when it will be but that's really next on my list.

Re: Obsession soundbanks
Hahahaha... Abrasive? Insulting? After the 1st answer telling me "so you can't program your own sounds?", and the second one saying "Camera Eye is pretty simple and if you can't do this one...". 1 simple question, 2 answers that subtely called me an ignorant. I'm really impressed. If you were to come and visit the forum where I moderate, I would have the courtesy of asking you which part you needed help with exactly.
Re: Obsession soundbanks
Yes abrasive and insulting.
Not a way to make a first impression. The question Kriminal asked was legitimate. Most synth players also know how to program them. It's not a huge leap to expect most people can program such a simple synth as an OBX-a or such a simple patch as the Camera Eye synth. I did help you out by providing links to more patches even though the Demo can't load them but just to let you know they exist. I had better things I could have done today than trying to help you out so again you're welcome. Other than that since I don't work for Synapse I'm in no position to grant your demands that OBsession includes all the patches that you want.
Re: Obsession soundbanksLuc, the reactions you are getting are a little cold because of the tone you adopted in your first and subsequent messages.
1) you are not bringing a lot to the party: you already have what you seem to think is superior, so why put this one down? Just move on. 2) you make nasty comments about others living in their parents' basements. 3) you admit that you don't program yourself, and this is a wonderful piece of software for those who do. Maybe it's just not for you. 4) you seem to be mostly interested in recreating patches from old songs, which is fine, but as that's already done elsewhere, why ask for it here? 5) your original claim that there are just not enough sound banks for it seems, if you don't mind, kind of smug. It's not the #, it's the quality of sounds. (and the editing interface, though that wouldn't apply in your case.) 6) sorry to be nasty back at you, but someone needed to burst that bubble. i'm usually a nice guy, but meanness bothers me. 7) it almost seems like you want the Demo to have all the sounds so you won't have to buy it. But you own Dune, so I can understand that. I played an OB-Xa a lot in 1981 and find a magical connection between that sound and Obsession's. Like you, I've been looking around for that magic in a VI, and though SEM had some of it; that OP-II had some, Synsonics has some, I wasn't satisfied by any of them. For me, Obsession is similar enough, and yet slightly different, knob-wise, to be Just What I Wanted. Maybe when that Behringer hardware one comes out, you'll find your dream machine!
Re: Obsession soundbanks
Does a guitar player not need to know how to tune his guitar or change the strings? Does a trumpet player not need to know how to use a mute to change the tone of his instrument? Even a vocalist needs to learn how to use a microphone to keep his voice level consistent. So yes, it seems reasonable that a synth player should know how to use all the features of his/her chosen instrument, too. You'd also kind of hope they would want to make their own unique sounds, not just recycle other people's sounds from 40 years ago. I'd certainly be embarrassed to include a patch that was ripped off from a song or another artist on any synth I was making patches for. It would be like passing off a Jamie Oliver recipe as something I had invented on my own.
That's definitely how you come across. After all, Obsession shipped with more than 400 presets and you're complaining that it's not many. I can't even get my head around how you'd think that. Then someone posts links to three other soundbanks, two of which were made by the same people who made the factory sounds, and you still don't seem happy. Now I'' give you another link to some free sounds and we'll see if 700+ patches is maybe getting close to making you happy - https://www.kvraudio.com/product/obsess ... /downloads For a synth that has only been out a matter of weeks, that's a pretty impressive number of available patches and the fact that the vast majority of them are free should make anyone happy, surely? Re: Obsession soundbanksBones,
The trial version of Obsession only ships with ~50 patches (if that), and won't allow me to load any 3rd party patches, so as you said yourself so gently to another user on this forum, "educate yourself before speaking". All I asked was if there was any possibility for more presets so I can better evaluate. That's being an asshole for you? Admittedly, when I read your posts on this forum, you treat everyone as an asshole, so you probably don't how to make the difference anymore. Re: Obsession soundbanks
Yes, but does he need to know how to solder the pickups to the internal circuitry? Does he need to know how to repair/change the frets? I consider that the trial period of a v-synth is not the time to start figuring out how this particular v-synth is implemented. I have right now 4 different implementations of the OBX-a, and none of them produce the same result, none of them have the same controls. And your affirmation is completely stupid, and let me explain to you why. Obsession is a brand new product. I want to give it a trial. I'm supposed to know exactly how it works before? You guys are clearly dissing just for the fun of dissing new users.
Re: Obsession soundbanks
Tommyn, The VERY FIRST reaction (reply) I got was "so you can't program your own sound?". Tell me again who's smug? How on Earth am I supposed to know how to program Obsession during a trial period when, as you admit yourself, all the different OB emulations are different. Wouldn't it help Synapse-Audio to provide me with much more than to ~40-50 very basic patches in order for me to evaluate, and decide to purchase or not? Don't worry, I'm not trying to leech patches. I have more than enough money to pay for what I want. I already own many K$ of hardware and software, so my asking more patches for the demo/trial period has nothing to do with trying to get free stuff. Again, how on Earth did you even come to that conclusion? All I did was point out that it would be nice to have more sample patches for the trial. Is that a fuckin sin around here?
Re: Obsession soundbanks
TO ALL OF YOU POINTING ME TO 3RD PARTY PATCHES AS IF I WAS TOO DUMB TO FIND THEM, THE TRIAL VERSION OF OBSESSION DOESN'T ALLOW LOADING OF 3RD PARTY PATCHES/SOUNDBANKS. AS BONES SAYS SO WELL "EDUCATE YOURSELVES"
Re: Obsession soundbanksTo mods,
Please lock this thread. I'll delete my forum account myself. I have no time to waste with the type of persons hanging around here.
