Obsession Duran Duran Preset

Postby kb420ps » Thu Sep 10, 2020 12:20 am

I tried to recreate the sound from Duran Duran's song, "Save A Prayer". I got pretty close, but I don't think I really nailed it. Has anyone else recreated this sound in Obsession? This is a classic Oberheim sound. If you don't know exactly what it sounds like, here is a link to a video of the sound. It's the sound you hear for the first 10 seconds of the song.

I can't find any information that Nick Rhodes used an Oberheim on that track at least. Do you have a link to which Oberheim was used ?

It seems like he used a Jupiter 8, EMS Synthi AKS, Prophet-5, and even a Fairlight on some of the tracks.

I saw this video, and I assumed that the original song used an Oberheim. I could be wrong, but it sure as hell sounds a LOT like the original with this Oberheim clone. Check the video at 25 seconds in.

The OP-X Pro-II has presets from the Jupiter, Prophet 5, Polymoog and Synthex as well.

But OBsession should be able to do those Duran Duran sounds.

Its was the J8, but can be made in any synth. Very simple sound. It's the fx that make the sound.

Just for giggles I got this with Dune 3. Not perfect but I'm not going to spend any more time trying to match a sound on a YouTube video.

That is pretty close. I saw a demo where someone did it on a Dave Poly Synth, and it sounded great. I tried to mimic what he did, with Obsession, but like I said, I don't really feel like I nailed it. I actually did it in Sylenth, and got a lot closer. Late last night, I caved in and bought OP-X PRO-II. I found the preset and attempted to reverse engineer it in Obsession. I got closer, but I still don't feel like I nailed it. OP-X PRO-II's preset really does have it nailed. I'm having problems reverse engineering the effects in it because it's GUI is absolutely TERRIBLE when it comes to editing effects. All I could see for sure was the the delay was NOT tempo synced. It's actually free flowing with a delay time of 405ms. I know that there are other effects on it, but I can't seem to see what they are, and exactly what their settings are.
