Easiest way to quickly record ideas

Postby JohnDX » Wed Feb 18, 2009 4:47 pm

I was playing around with my midi and got some ideas I want to remember, and was just wondering what the quickest way to record them would be.

One neat feature would be if it's possible to make it adjust the pattern length automatically, so that it keeps getting longer for as long as you play. Does that exist? As it is now it loops and you ruin what you've recorded.

What I did was put it in song mode and put a lot of different tracks in row and then recorded into them, but that's a little tedious if you just want to quickly get down a few ideas. Especially compared to my "autoadjust pattern length" idea, which would only require checking a box or something.

But there might be other ways, so I'm asking.

(Edit: Maybe it would have been simpler to just set the length of the pattern really high than what I did, but that's still a little annoying compared to the autoadjust thing.)

Hi JohnDx

What Kriminal said + save the song and call it quick idea template
or something, then you don't have to do it over and over again :-)
just load it up when you want to play...

Yeah, I just discovered that it's possible to write the length directly. Thought I had to click that little arrow...

So that's what I should do when I'm playing midikeyboard right there in Orion and come up with good and possibly complex music? :D

I've got a copy of the Korg DS-1 on my Nintendo DS which I carry about with me. No MIDI support, but it's a handy notepad.

record your voice, then use audio to midi.
(in the case you don't have keyboard or don't know how to play it...)

ccarrieres says it, hope you use the lenghtfunction with doubleclick? in my first 2 years with orion i pushes the arrow up and down, annoying, i dont know at that time that you can do this 100x faster with a doubleclick on the number ''16'' hahaha
And in a half second is the 16 a longer 128 or 1024 or whatever you want.

works on gens and playlist.and tempo. and my microwave

also, you could plug in the Voxengo recorder (i dump one on my master out)
set it to go and then jam your aarse off. when exhausted, stop the recorder.
you can then edit the important/great moments and save them for whatever.

this of course is not an editable solution, but is a pretty fast way of saving an idea.
