Postby simen911 » Tue Apr 20, 2010 8:06 pm

Hy Folks,

If i work sometimes with tomcat to get a good BD, but i need a lot of Compressor and stuff (Chorus, double generator 1+1 or what ever) but i'm not really Happy with it..sound never clear and pumpi

I work with Samples but i would like more to work with a generator.. with enough pressure.

Tomcat is not the choice for powerful kicks.

EKS-9 is good
Drumatic 3 is also good (free)
and BuzzISM (used a lot)

I think TomCat is a unique and good sounding kick myself. A bit fidgety sometimes. Without giving CC's secret away - a saturation insert effect does wonders for it. Bass Comp also I'm learning. Really beefs it up for me. ;)

Yes Saturations is a Way. My favourites are

Density MKII (really good)
jb_ferox (for free Top)
Orion Saturation (good)
but the Sound is never really clear...

i think the Problem is the resolution of the main signal, the wave shape has strong peaks when i check it in an editor.

as well i try filterbank
http://music.service-1.de/html/filterbank.html
to fix it, but makes me as well not really happy with it..

I fluked a really pumping bass drum once. It was like FL8 default, just a stock kick with a maximizer. So maybe a maximizer would be good. I am not an afficiando of mastering tools at all though.

Samples, the best way of getting good kick.
Especially if you cut them from original tracks. Every professional musician, who is in music industry now, are doing that.

not true at all

trouble with sampling form tracks is that the sound is already mastered, so any FX you put on top will kill the sound...over compression is a big no no

Of course 100% no, but a lot, lot of producers are doing that.
I love to watch Masterclass videos, where musicians are showing how they make their music, and almost everybody said, that they are sampling out kicks, snares etc from original tracks.
Krim, your'e right, yeah, but i personally never had problem with this. What about you?
