Time Stretching via DrumRack: Lovin' it!

I don't know if this is general knowledge but here is my way of doing time stretching with Orion's DrumRack:

1. Load the sample into a track of DrumRack.
2. Activate the CUT TRK parameter of this track.
3. Fill the WHOLE pattern with 16th, 32th or shorter notes.
4. Automate the OFFSET parameter.
5. Play around with it.

I know, this is not very professional but it works well for many time stretching tasks.


EDIT: Damn! I've been using this technique for more than three years. After I have written this forum post, I thought about it again and figured out, that time stretching can be realized more comfortable with Orion's Sampler (using START parameter instead of OFFSET) .

it is not time stretching, it's slicing, and it's better to do it with the sampler
you can do time stretching with the drumrack by :

1. Load the sample into a track of DrumRack.
2. set the fit ON.
3. Select the same length as the pattern length.
4. play with tempo.

the only difficulty will be to select the right length !
it was the way in the 80's and early 90's
if you want more authenticity put 12-bit on !

that's not timestretching either, that's just playing the sample faster or slower which can be interesting for effect at times too.

I'm hopingh the sampler will at some point also allow either
a) stretch to fit
b) timestretch to fit (same as a but pitch left intact)

Slicing a 100bpm loop in a 150bpm song can just sound too choppy, losing the rhythm

I guess the only answer is to work out the length of the sample loop, then calculate the length for the required new bpm, then timestretch in say SoundForge and then import into the sampler

SoundForge works with BPM too, so you don't really have to calculate anything.
