Drag & drop samples

Postby traumatek » Mon Aug 29, 2011 2:44 pm

apologies if this is already in 8.5, but it would be handy to be able to drag and drop samples into the sampler

+1 for a "media explorer" (like Reaper and other major daws) with the ability to drag and drop samples to sampler/drum rack and audio track.. (and other vsti that support drag and drom, like Poise or Nerve and of course sample preview

Totaly cant see the point of this. The Windows basic browser is great and too much faster to browse than other Daws.

I know it's not a must have, but when you use a lot of samples a dedicated media explorer it's more useful, than the win file broswer, I think just to Reaper,my second daw of choice, afer Orion ofcourse :D

+1 Drop samples, presets, styles, wallpapers, etc.. from windows explorer (I use Total Commander Instead) to Orion. :cowboy:

-1 "Builtin media explorer". I have in mind that this always goes wrong. :)

1. Click the Open button in either Sampler or DrumRack
2. Browse to where your sample is located
3. Single click on samples to preview as you play

Sounds like a media browser to me, and doesn't take any more steps than a "built-in media browser" would.

I too fail to see the point.

Maybe the issue here is housekeeping, indexing and storage of one's sample library.

But it does not come with a preview function. For drum sample search using the drum rack, it is very handy to go through the list of samples with the cursor keys (up/down) and getting an immediate feedback of the sample sound. This especially helps a lot finding the right hihat etc.

I think the best option is just enable Drag & Drop and let the user use whatever he likes as a media explorer. In my situation I use Total Commander as media explorer. Actually I test this, Orion supports Drag & Drop, but, nothing happens when something is dropped.

Personally, I'm not bothered about any media explorer.

Bear in mind that if Orion had drag and drop, you could just align windows explorer next to it and voila, there's your media explorer.

Drag and drop can make life a LOT simpler IMO

to use drag and drop you would be not be using Orion full screen, what the point in that?

I´ve got your point, but if you use multiple desktops then fullscreen become useless.

The strange thing is that even in Orion 8.5 beta 2... Drag & Drop is enabled, but didn´t do anything (unless I can't find a function yet). If you drop something over Orion, nothing happened.
