Just to update...
I was using a sample CD at the weekend
Each wav track has several loops on it
Since the slicer cant currently set start and end points for the part that gets recreated in the pianoroll, the whole lot has to!
It takes a bit of time narrowing down on one loop - or of course I can open up my audio editor and pick the parts I want
BUT...
1. that takes ages just to properly audition sections
2. if I decide I want a different loop, I need to start the whole process again
Simple start/end bars in the grooveslicer would solve that

yeah, its a damn shame when you actually have to make an effort and do some work yourself isnt it.... Windows 11 Home - 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400 2.50 GHz -32GB RAM

Re: Sample and cut mp3well as someone who once used to work with tape, and had to physically cut and splice tape I don't see it as a problem, I can still do in seconds, what used to take much, much longer (had to wait for the glue to dry, set up two tape players, and if you wanted a long loop, you'd have the tape decks on opposite sides of the room, support the tape with a c stand or something, and hope your splice held...... and then if the loop wasn't right, or quite what you where after, do it again....
now... working from wav files, I'd rather be loading in a small wav file, just the section I want, into my project rather than a large file, however, more control in the sampler wouldn't hurt, being able to quickly change and try different things can lead to some great results. I'd still trim down my samples though, I think i'd rather have an osp file for each sample part I'd want, "I am the all-singing all-dancing crap of the world."
Re: Sample and cut mp3'now... working from wav files, I'd rather be loading in a small wav file, just the section I want, into my project rather than a large file'
Stiffy, that's exactly my point. Many of the samples I work with are on CDs as longer tracks, with say 5-10 different loops on. Sure, I'd have no problem cutting one up and looping to make sure it sounded ok BUT.... you cant actually test that loop until it's in the sampler So, you can end up going through all that process only to find the start and end arent quite right for the 'recreate in groove' slices to be correctly aligned. That means going back to say Soundforge, re-editing and repeating You have to go through all that, then if at a later time you decide a different loop would be better.... go through it all again!! All this could be solved by having the start and end of the 'recreate in groove' section being adjustable 'yeah, its a damn shame when you actually have to make an effort and do some work yourself isnt it....' Kriminal, we've been through that before, so I'm not going to comment It's clear you have no empathy or understanding of how others work
Re: Sample and cut mp3
no, no empathy for lazy ppl if you want to do accurate audio editing, use an audio editor. Windows 11 Home - 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400 2.50 GHz -32GB RAM

i agree with you what about using audio track to test ? Yamaha CS-30, Roland SH-1, Roland MKS70, Focusrite Scarlett 18i6, Yamaha FS1R, Oberheim Matrix 1000, Novation Remote 37SL, Korg Legacy, Alesis M1Active 520, Novation Launchpad Pro, Push2, Intel i7-7700HQ
Re: Sample and cut mp3
I set up my loops in SOUNDFORGE, and save various possibilities of the loop, then try them. If they aren't right, I can tell where to trim or extend and do it again. It's part of the process. and it can be done in very little time however as I said, having more control in the sampler would be good, "I am the all-singing all-dancing crap of the world."
Re: Sample and cut mp3
I use NCH Wave Editor no problems converts MP3 into wav format in seconds you can cut / paste delete everything before or after a marker point, you can add effects, reverse the wav, merge two wav together etc. Even have text to speech. The more expensive version will remove vocals I beleive.

yes, I guess that's the way, but it's not very efficient It's fine if you're set on a particular loop, but for quickly auditioning, it's pretty time consuming (even if some narrow-minded users cant understand and continue to make silly 'lazy' remarks!) I love the sampler and slicer, but it doesn't work as well as it could when the loops aren't already neatly trimmed etc.
Re: Sample and cut mp3
Hey dude check this sofware out does what you require it just deletes everything prior to a line and everything after a line. http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/index.html
Re: Sample and cut mp3 http://soundcloud.com/m-projekt/mfs-dance-mix
This track has a mp3 sample in it using the software I mentioned previously.
Re: Sample and cut mp3yes, I guess keeping the audio editor open and just cutting out the test section is the workaround
my desire is to be able to do it in Orion's sampler, since that's more efficient, but cant have everything hey ;o)
Re: Sample and cut mp3
and there you have it....'the loops aren't already neatly trimmed' do the prep work in an audio editor, where you can fully edit AND test loops, then save them and load then into whatever you want. sometimes you just have to put the man hours in yourself if you want decent results. Re: Sample and cut mp3
Don't use Auto-Slice. You can slice manually and pick up that what you want, then you arrange it in the Piano Roll. http://www.hunnyf1.com/wp-content/uploa ... Slicer.png But I agree with you - because manually adding precise timed notes for the manual slices are an art to do - simple start-end points before tha Auto-silcing would be very handy. Hopefully there will be Pitch Shifting+Time Stretching added to Orion for V9 and for the Sampler too, so even the Slicer could see some improvements.
Re: Sample and cut mp3Lance - I'm fine with manual slicing, but in your example,
you can get the left hand slice not to be '1' by deleting it, therefore having a blank at the start - which gives a moveable '1' bar (the start) - Great BUT, the same can't be done with the end slice. ie. in your png, the end slice always has to be recreated in the piano roll as far as I can see, isn't possible to cut the end off to define the end of what is recreated if the last sample could be deleted to not have a number It's also not possible to recreate manual slices in the piano roll, since the recreate function is only I think applied when using the automatic/fixed space slices. There needs to be a 'recreate in piano roll' button in the slice view window
