DUNE how to save as AU in Logic?

Postby mcnoone » Wed Apr 25, 2012 12:28 am

Hi.
When I save a bank file using DUNE in Logic, it saves it as an fxb.
Is there a way to save it as an AU bank?
Is it even necessary?
I can load and save a bank as fxb in Logic, then I really don't need the option, do I?

Thanks for any help.

uh...what?
an AU is a PLUGIN (i.e. DUNE runs as an AU).
a bank file is a collection of sounds, and saves as a .fxb.
the way it's working IS the way it works...so you're fine...

Apparently you didn't understand the question...actually not apparently.
Of course I know it can run as an AU...Logic only loads AU's .
I was wondering if there is a way to save a "SOUND BANK" as a Audio Unit "sound bank file".
AU soundbank file, not an AU plugin.
All Logic plugins save them as AU sound files...except DUNE.
Why?
I know it can load and save fxb files, but I was wondering if it saved and loaded AU sound bank files as well.

dude...apparently you don't understand what you're asking.
there is no such thing as an "AU sound bank".
an AU is an "audio Unit", it is a plugin type that apple prefers.

ALL plugins (for me, that includes sylenth1, dune, zebra, alchemy) save soundbanks as specific file types.
sylenth1 and dune as .fxb, zebra and alchemy as individual sound files ("h2p"), etc etc. massive has it's own format, for example.

there IS no such thing as an "AU Sound Bank"

check your plugin sound files, you'll see what i mean.

Well then your about to learn something.
I worded it wrong. Not a bank, but an "audio unit preset"
If I open Logic or Garageband, and save the preset through the Logic wrapper, and not the synth itself. It saves it as an AU preset. If I select "save preset" using the Garageband wrapper (the options at the top of the synth wrapper) it will save an "audio unit preset" of the sound.
In fact, there was something said by the developer of DUNE, that a recent update made saving audio unit presets possible with the latest version, which is why I'm asking about it, as I don't know why it's not saving them as au presets, but fxp instead.
Apparently what you don't know, is that Logic only saves it's own included synths presets as AU "Audio Unit Presets" files, and most other synths too.
Try it and see, then tell me I'm wrong again.
Save a preset in the es2, scultpure, or anything, then look at that saved presets extension.
What does it read?
Thank you...I think you understand what an au preset is now.

".pst". look in the ES2 folder (for example).

you worded it wrong? hard to answer a question that's been worded wrong.
whats the issue exactly? if everything is working, hard to see a problem.

either way, dude, am only trying to help.. :cowboy:

Well it's doing a soundset, and I wanted to have the Logic native au preset format available in it for Logic or Garageband users.
But as they load the fxb, then I guess there's no point.
btw...Zebra can save in 3 formats...h2p, fxp, and au. It will save as au-preset if you select the saving to "native format" whenever you use the au, and fxp whenever using the vst.
I thought DUNE was going to have the same type of thing.
I've only been using the vst in Live for making sounds though, so I haven't touched Logic in months, until now.

It should work when loading/saving via the host (Logic or Live on OS X).

The native and preferred format is FXB / FXP though.

doh! i saved a preset in an AU today in the wrong place; instead of thru the plugin's window, i saved thru logic's...
and got an AU preset.

first i've ever seen that. so...am humbled, and will be quiet from now on (unless i'm making a drum beat or something...).
