Legend 1.31 Installer

Postby puranon » Sat May 02, 2020 12:08 am

The installer for Legend 1.31 has Orion/VSTPlugins listed as the 32bit VST path. Shouldn't it be the same x86 version of the x64 filepath?

C:\Program Files (x86)/VSTPlugins

C:\Program Files/VSTPlugins

What is the logic? Nearly every installer defaults VST2 versions to those two paths and you don't mix x64 and x86 in the same folder.

Since VST is a Steinberg format, some default it to these.

C:\Program Files (x86)/Steinberg/VSTPlugins
C:\Program Files/Steinberg/VSTPlugins

The Best examples with both x86 and x64 versions are Arturia, IKMultimedia, Plogue

I put mine in C:\ 64 Bit Plugins.

If I'm not mistaken on Windows 10 the first path you install VST plugins into is what is remembered in the registry. But you can edit the registry to have plugins install to your preferred location if the plugin's installer does a check. Some installers don't check and default to the Steinberg folder which I doubt many people use unless they actually have Steinberg plugins or the installers default to the Program folder options which I don't recommend.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VST]

VST Path.png

For 32 bit it's...
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\VST]

My 32 bit location is blank since I don't use 32 bit plugins so it's possible an installer will check for a path, not find one then default to something else and that may be what's happening with The Legend's installer.

A lot of people have custom VST folder locations so no matter what the Installer defaults to it's never going to satisfy everyone.

Anyway it only takes maybe 5 seconds to change the path in any plugin installer so this is really a non-issue.

I just ran The Legend's installer again and this is what I got:

Check what's in your 32 bit location in the registry. Like I said mine is blank so the installer defaulted to the (x86) location.

32 and 64 bit are always manually reassigned to identical paths (n the respective x86 and x64 folders

Never send an x64 plugin to an x86 folder and vice versa

No they're not. Just look at the screenshot above. "Manually reassigned" means you're doing it yourself. Like I said check your registry to see what values are there.
