Orion 8.5 beta: Side-chaining and 'Stream to File'Create a song file with Side-chained compression (new compressors) then export to 'All Instruments on Separate Files' -- the side-chaining effect isn't recorded.
Re: Orion 8.5 beta: Side-chaining and 'Stream to File'it wont, as it renders each channel seprately, so the sidechain/comp channels wont work at the same time, you will have to render those two channels together afterwards.

Re: Orion 8.5 beta: Side-chaining and 'Stream to File'It should compress the sound per instrument
Otherwise what is the point? If you are exporting individual instrument channels you want the effects on them applied (Chorus, Delay, Compression) otherwise you'd simply stream clean sound files. There isn't any reason for it NOT to compress each instrument (Wav file) with the side chain applied and export it as such. If I am side-chaining drums and bass and you're saying I have to render them together then I no longer have a single bass stream and a single drum stream --- I have one drum and bass stream which defeats the purpose of streaming per instrument!
Re: Orion 8.5 beta: Side-chaining and 'Stream to File'if need be,
you can solo the instruments involved in any sidechaining and then disable any bus/master/effect routing for the instruments you don't want to stream the audio of.
Re: Orion 8.5 beta: Side-chaining and 'Stream to File'
i think you are missing the point, but im not going to argue it. Windows 11 Home - 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400 2.50 GHz -32GB RAM

Re: Orion 8.5 beta: Side-chaining and 'Stream to File'
If that works it would in fact be a workaround. But that is tedious at best.. I still feel we shouldn't have to go through those steps. The application should be smart enough to render the effects per instrument as they sound during song playback not during solo. Right now Orion seems to solo each instrument channel/track before rendering it which kills some effects (such as side-chained compression). If that is not considered a bug then it needs to be an option for render.
Re: Orion 8.5 beta: Side-chaining and 'Stream to File'i really cant see how its possible
take this scenario: you have a kick drum and a bassline, one sidechaind to the other via compressor....to get the sidechain to work you need to render both tracks together, but you want them seperate....how do you do that??? Windows 11 Home - 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400 2.50 GHz -32GB RAM

Re: Orion 8.5 beta: Side-chaining and 'Stream to File'Imho these don'd have sense,if I need to export separate tracks is because I want to port my work to another daw and/or to a pro studio for the mastering etc,so I will export the track completly dry and I can apply new fx chains, included sidechain from scratch
Re: Orion 8.5 beta: Side-chaining and 'Stream to File'The thing with Orion is that during the separated streaming, it's not just soloing channels/instruments, it's basically ignoring everything but what's being streamed. With that in mind, if you have a sidechain compressor on the bass that is linked to the kick, the kick is being ignored during the streaming process of the bass channel, so it can't trigger the compressor.
I guess the only way for that to work is for Orion stop ignoring entirely the channel it's receiving sidechain from (kick), but muting it somehow - although again it wouldn't be able to sidechain. Difficult. SoundCloud ::: Facebook
Re: Orion 8.5 beta: Side-chaining and 'Stream to File'
Yeah, i remember that i had this problem a lot. I don't know how to do that, that all will work. Maybe just export all Wav file. I remember when i was working with Cubase or Ableton, don't actually remember which one, it was a long time ago, all went good. Sidechain was there, effects etc, all good. I hope somebody will help you, i really don't know how.. Blessings. Keith Murray, Da Muzicianz, Ying Yang Twins, Big Omeezy Beat Maker.
Re: Orion 8.5 beta: Side-chaining and 'Stream to File'
Exactly! That is what seems to be occurring. If Orion could render both instruments at the same time but in different streams/files.. almost like an inverted mixdown... a mixUP well that might accomplish the task. Right now it seems Orion can only render one file at a time so yeah it might be difficult at the moment.. Richard, any ideas/thoughts?
Re: Orion 8.5 beta: Side-chaining and 'Stream to File'yes, it is a workaround.. but you could get the end-result you want. however, you'd have to render those instruments effected by side-chaining as a whole song making use of the solo/routing technique i mentioned.
what you want seems simple, but there's other angles to consider. Andy-b wants something completely different from what you want from the streaming. Also, if you want all effects to work as they do in full-song playback, what about bus effects and send-effects? Some of those are going to sound much different when there is only one instrument traveling through them, especially if they implement some sort of saturation, compression, etc. and what should happen if you have instruments receiving midi from other instruments?
Re: Orion 8.5 beta: Side-chaining and 'Stream to File'
Yeah might be the only option for the moment...
As they should. If one doesn't want the effects they can disable them before render. Then you'd at least have an option between the two. That or 'Clean' and 'Dirty' modes for the render where it would disable/enable the effects chains for you. That would probably be the better option. The software should be doing the heavy lifting.. not the end user!
Re: Orion 8.5 beta: Side-chaining and 'Stream to File'you're still missing the point of what the sidechain actually is

Re: Orion 8.5 beta: Side-chaining and 'Stream to File'Choosing "Render to separate channels" should work with sidechains in 8.5. It has been requested here some time ago, so I fixed it. Should be possible though to extend that to the separate instruments option.
