Some terribly beginner questions

How is reaper for making songs using only your computer? I don't own instruments and I don't have any talent in them. What VSTs would you recommend? I'm absolutely clueless in this department since I'm so used to having stuff like Harmor set up and ready when I tried FL. Where's a good place to start learning about the software? I tried reading the manual and it may have given me some permanent brain damage so I'd appreciate video tutorials. I'm sorry if all this is so elementary, I'm just a normal guy without friends looking to make people happy or not feel as lonely through music.
