Finally finding my way into some really deep, minimal dub techno. It's not for everyone, but the good stuff I can put on and listen to for hours.
Since I started getting into it I've been trying to write something similar to the really deep minimal tracks that are really based around one or two synths, modulating a nice filter and some delay and reverb. And after a year and a half I'm finally making steps towards it
Just a quick snippet from a new track

Re: Finally getting deep and minimalI must say that I have not listened to much of this genre, but I really like what you have done. It's chill but with a beat. What synths are you using?
Re: Finally getting deep and minimalNice. I really like what you do with noise/hiss ... it provides some of the fuzzy warmth that made Basic Channel's records so great.

Re: Finally getting deep and minimal
It's fairly simple - Massive for the main synth, another Massive for the bass and Vanguard is providing a little background sound that you really only hear when it's not there. Bass drum is Orion's Pro 9. Some of the noise and hiss is a sample I recorded of a dissolvable panadol and berocca bubbling away in a little water.
Thanks! It's funny that I spent years trying to remove noise from recordings, and now I'm finding ways to put it back in. I often spend just as much time on the noise (modulation, eq, levels, side chain, panning, pitch etc) as I do on the rest of the synths and sounds.
Ha ha, thanks! Slowly working my way there

That's a brilliant idea!
Re: Finally getting deep and minimal
Thanks! I had the idea at work when I popped two into a glass and heard the fizzing. Put my ear up to the glass and thought - "that would make an excellent recording". Has its own 'modulation' too as it bubbles and dies away gradually. Even managed to record it in stereo with two little mics clipped to either side of the glass.
