Hi everyone,
I picked up DUNE 3 yesterday during a sale at JRR Shop. I had previously tried the DUNE CM version that came with Computer Music magazine, but I never seriously considered buying the full version until now. After spending about half an hour with the demo, I decided to go for it.
What really impressed me is the depth of the layering system. The fact that you can work with up to 8 layers and build such massive sounds is pretty incredible. The flexibility for sound design is much deeper than I expected.
In a way, it reminds me of the 8-layer combi mode on my Korg TR88, but with a much more modern and polished sound. I also own the Korg Collection with the Triton VST, and while those instruments still sound great, DUNE 3 honestly feels comparable to modern workstations like a Yamaha Montage or a Korg Kronos in terms of sonic quality and possibilities.
Another thing that really stood out to me is the sequencer combined with the MSEGs. Together they make it possible to create evolving patterns, riffs, and even full melodic sequences that constantly change over time. It’s incredibly powerful and honestly a lot of fun to experiment with.
I’m curious if anyone here is using DUNE 3 in a live keyboard setup. Does it support MIDI program change messages for switching banks and presets during a performance?
If not, I guess one workaround would be loading multiple instances of DUNE 3 for different sounds within a set. Still, it would be really interesting if there were a way to create something like a setlist folder and then trigger those presets directly through program change messages.
Would love to hear how others are using it live. Thanks!
