You can put it in Orion\VSTPlugins\, although you can stick it in pretty much any folder you like, as long as you add that folder to the list of folders that Orion scans.
You shouldn't need to do anything to Orion to get the plug in to work.
Midwife - A souped up MIDI Out module!Moderators: Christophe, Mark
Re: Midwife - A souped up MIDI Out module!Significant update coming soon. More controllers (ten more than previous version), smaller size and GUI overhaul. Here is how it is looking so far:
Just a few things to test and decide on. I might do away with the reverb and chorus controls and put aftertouch and expression there instead. You'll notice that the knobs have all gone! They had to in order to shrink the UI. Now, you just drag up and down on a number to change its value. The new size means you can now fit 12 instances on to a 1920 x 1080 screen as opposed to six with the previous version. Re: Midwife - A souped up MIDI Out module!I've now made a smaller (cramped) version that is about the same size as Monobass and smaller than the native MIDI Out. You could now fit 20 instances on to one screen, not that you would
Here's a screen shot with part of Orion's toolbar to get an idea of size: I should be able to upload this and the normal version tomorrow morning. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Re: Midwife - A souped up MIDI Out module!the smaller is very cute, but i don't like the font, would you mind to try something more arial ?

Re: Midwife - A souped up MIDI Out module!I know what you mean. I was going for the 80s look
The problem is that they are bitmaps, but I'll have a go at replacing them with something else, just probably not Arial!
Re: Midwife - A souped up MIDI Out module!OK, I had a quick go with Christophe's suggestion to use something Arial-like and here it is. It works better than I thought it would. The controllers are better aligned than in my previous attempt too. It all adds to the cuteness

Re: Midwife - A souped up MIDI Out module!OK. I think it is ready, so here is a link to the new Midwife
http://www.box.com/s/4f17c9707251202d9fd6 I think it worthwhile to point out that this isn't just for controlling hardware. You could, for instance, use it with DUNE as a quick way to check how parameters such as breath and expression affect your sound (or indeed to use third party patches that have these programmed in), even if you have MIDI controllers that don't support these. You'll need to switch DUNE to MIDI CC mode in generator settings first though. Midwife opens, as default, in MIDI CC mode. That way you have access to all possible CC#'s in the event editor. If, however, you want to see the list of controllers as they appear in the UI then you'll need to switch to VST mode - again using Generator settings. The UI parameters are available in all modes for MIDI learn btw. I hope you find it useful and please let me know of any problems if you find them. Cheers, Mark
Re: Midwife - A souped up MIDI Out module!Damn, this Midwife-thing is rolling like heck
So I am going to test the new version. I´ve spent some time figuring out that MIDI device problem, is that problem still actual? It looks like the answer lays somewhere in the core of VST programing, a friend of mine is a programer and he´ll help with that thing, as soon as he finds some time for it "I need more details."
Re: Midwife - A souped up MIDI Out module! As long as you don't change your MIDI set up then your MIDI out setting should be recalled correctly. This is based on how Windows reports the connected MIDI devices and is similar to how DAWs do it AFAIU. I'm trying to find a way that takes the name of the device and stores it so that it can be used as a search term for future use. Don't expect that to happen any time soon though
Re: Midwife - A souped up MIDI Out module!I've now implemented NRPN controllers. Currently, I have two UI elements that can be assigned NRPN values. Would you prefer more? If so should I take them from the existing elements or make a new row?
Re: Midwife - A souped up MIDI Out module!what about 16 cc and 16 nrpn ?
or to keep it small 8 and 8 ? Yamaha CS-30, Roland SH-1, Roland MKS70, Focusrite Scarlett 18i6, Yamaha FS1R, Oberheim Matrix 1000, Novation Remote 37SL, Korg Legacy, Alesis M1Active 520, Novation Launchpad Pro, Push2, Intel i7-7700HQ
Re: Midwife - A souped up MIDI Out module!Something like that. Can't quite decide atm. I will also want to fit in some RPN slots, so maybe, 12 CC, 12 NRPN and 4 RPN? That should keep the width close to what it is now with an ~50% increase in height.
Re: Midwife - A souped up MIDI Out module!
Ok this is not that important, so don´t worry about it. I think 12 CCs and 12 NRPNs will do fine. I wasn´t interested much in NRPN because there was a life BEFORE Midwife and now I just found out that the little Korg Electribe (I own the EA-1 and the ES-1) can be controlled via NRPN. But when I want to handle more than one control (like Cutoff and Reso) it behaves like usind Midwife in MIDI CC modus: Cutoff works but jumps back to its original value when changing another NRPN. Is there any solution for this? (must be a n00b question, so sorry for that) As long as Midwifes knobs are compatible with the event editor, I am satisfied "I need more details."
Re: Midwife - A souped up MIDI Out module!First thanks for your efforts so far, Mark. I really appreciate that.
Assigning CCs and tweaking the parameters works great and the new UI looks good (although it is almost a bit too small on my screen - or is it just my eyes?). I just tried to record some song automations which caused Orion to crash instantly. Is this problem just here or did somebody else experience this? Another downside is that there is no optical feedback when you tweak a knob assigned with the Midi Learn function of Orion. The parameter just shows the last value adjusted using the GUI. http://soundcloud.com/chris-qhq/moonshine

Re: Midwife - A souped up MIDI Out module!Hi chrishq,
I've not had any crashes here, can you elaborate a bit more, please? Also, to get the visual feedback, knob assignments will only work in VST mode rather than CC mode. You can change that in generator settings. Thanks for testing btw, and glad you find it useful
