install the Content with on a extern harddisc

Hello, i have Not much Space on my internal harddisc, is it possible to install the Content with on a extern harddisc on a MacBook and how can i do that? Thanks in advance!

I'm guessing he means DUNE 3's content? On Windows it's possible to set a custom path in the installer. I assume it's the same for Mac?

I assume they haven't tried...I'm not familiar with mac, but, I do recall seeing a post somewhere before, about installing data in different places, and creating shortcuts...but it's very vague.

Hi, at this moment we use just the following patch without possibility to change it during installation on Mac:
/Library/Application Support/Synapse Audio

The only one way is to create the symbolic link to your external harddisk (ln -s).
Please note that it should not be a network disk.

Do you think this will be an issue that keeps popping up? Even the $2000 Mac Studio only has a 512GB SSD. So I imagine everyone buying one especially for studio work will be using some sort of external drive.

Could you build the same option to select a custom path in the Mac installer or is that not how things work on Mac?

In general the standard installer allows only for choosing the installation drive, however it never worked enough good. As far as we remember there always has been some random issue when installed on the other drive than main (also often related o frequent changes in Apple security), so since there is a static path on the main drive, a huge amount of file access issues and auth mistakes are gone. If there is some space issue, it is better to use symbolic link, and so on.

So, just to clarify, you install to main drive, then move date to external/other drive, and create a symbolic link?

Yes, like that, though to avoid the data move the symbolic link can be created before the installation.
