About 3D Image of Dune 2

Hi - what software did you guys at Synapse use to draw the 3D image of Dune 2 on the front cover of the manual?

That cover artwork was made externally by a professional 3D designer. What software he used I do not know or remember (must have been about 10 years ago). Generally speaking many seem to use Cinema 4D these days, so if you are interested in this kind of stuff, this is what I would recommend to check out first.
