On the subject of plugin lists. I'd love to see better plugin management in Orion. The ability to create custom lists, exclude plugins that are not currently in use but are used by older projects etc.
The management I think is very good in OP too. I like the fact that my 'general effects' like comps and maximizers can all go in WaveLab's VST folder, and still be shared by OP. Weird glitchy effects I can put in OP's VST folder, and not have to sift through them when I'm in WaveLab.
I think though that Rich did away with VST Plugs and VST Instrument folders? I still use mine fine in OP 7.62 and they work fine. So if 'Itchy Glitch' doesn't show up as an effect, then it must be a synth and move it to the Instruments folder - or vice versa.
Yeah, it used to be separated, right? At least I remember something of that sort. It's all combined now, though, in one shared folder called VSTplugins. Not to alarm you, it still works as it should, only without all the moving of files between folders In the end, it comes down to one's organization of files and folders.

to exclude a plugin move it to an other folder outside the scan of orion, it will be prompted by the song.
I like to know what's an 'effect' and what's a 'instrument' when I go into OP. And especially now with some of these names given, it's hard to tell what's what on initial glance in a common VST folder. Something I think Rich should return to, or users should implement. Does wonders for me still.

That's only if you have a need to know what .dll file is what. Even with a joint folder, Orion still divides the files between effects and instruments when you look into the Insert menu.
True, but I tend to look at the DLL's as I'm installing or plopping into the folders. IE; downloading dbGlitch and see in the fx folder I've already got 'Glitch Girl' I rarely used. Maybe I should compare the two? Or putting in Cosmic Girl synth, and realising Crystal's right beside it. Forgot about good ol' Crystal. Maybe Cosmic Girl's better for my weird ideas - maybe Crystal beats it out? Whereas all in one folder - what the heck was Glitch Girl again? Does Crystal allow to be an effect as well I wonder?
True, I see what you mean. Personally, I don't want to worry about what a specific .dll file is. I see a file like DDCX1R3.dll, I pop it inside VSTplugins folder, Orion finds it, and I just look for it within the Insert menu, under the Effects, or Instruments. No moving around afterwards if I like it but made a mad asumption of what it is. Plus, lowers the odds of having duplicate files for me.
That's true too. And has happened between Steinberg, Vst Inst. and VST FX on me. I don't think it's anything Rich can help - but would be nice if DLL's had some added indentifier. Like .DLLFX and DLLSYN or something like that?

You misunderstand.
For example Sonar has a Plugin Manager that allows you to make custom lists of plugins and arrange them into folders without actually having to move .dlls or create actual folders. Have an older plugin that you don't use any more but is still used in older projects? No need to have it listed. Want a different list for different styles of music ?
Just makes managing plugins a lot easier especially if you have a lot installed. Reaper has a similar feature and FL has a more primitive system but at least you can control what plugins are displayed in the drop down lists. As it is now Orion displays all the plugins I have installed even if I'm not currently using them.
sorry, but i think i understood perfectly but you did not understand the vision of Richard from synapse audio : he does not want to code what is already coded elsewhere ! this is the reason why he will never code : a browser like ableton or FL (use the windows explorer) a inline wave editor like reaper or ableton (use a specific tool) a plugin manager allowing you to create folder, to sort your vst into category like in sonar (use the windows explorer) every thing that can be made easily outside of orion will never be coded by Rich
