Re: Audio ouput settings. That slider sets the latency of your audio. Move it to the left until you start to hear crackles then nudge it back slightly to the right until they disappear.
I see that you have ASIO driver(s) installed on your system. Use ASIO if you want a shorter latency. 402ms is a bit long IMHO, unless you're not doing real-time note input/automation, in which case, don't worry
Re: Audio ouput settings.Badshah, Mark is right. You will be better off using ASIO driver, for more than one reasons.
1. Smaller latency Even if you have no need for fast responses, consider that every time you do something (play a note on your keyboard, press Play button, etc) you will have almost half a second delay with that setting. It can get annoying really fast. ASIO driver is capable to deliver same performance on much smaller setting. For example, the highest setting on ASIO4All driver is 2048 samples, or about 45ms, which is 10 times faster than what you currently have it set to, and you basically have the same (if not even better) performance. Highest setting for kxProject driver is 12288 samples or a little over 250ms, which is still much faster than what you have right now. 2. Direct access to sound card hardware Even though DirectSound is defined to "provide a low-latency interface to the sound card driver" that often isn't the case because the audio signal still passes through other layers of the Windows architecture, like the Windows Mixer. This is more true if you're using Windows Vista/7, because of the changed architecture to the audio layers, there is no direct path from the software to the sound card anymore when using DirectSound. ASIO driver bypasses these audio layers, giving the software a direct access to sound card, which results in the aforementioned smaller latency. 3. Greater responsiveness Depending on your computer configuration, some (including myself) have observed a sluggish behavior of the software when using DirectSound or MME driver. It is more apparent on the VU meters, you can notice them moving kind of slow. With ASIO driver, the responsiveness seems to be fast as it should be. SoundCloud ::: Facebook
