I've started trying to use Kontakt to slice samples because Orion's sampler can't define the start/ end before slicing
Yes, I know I could use an external editor to first cut the samples to size
So, let's say I have a 10 bar sample at 127bpm
and I want to take just 4 bars of that sliced across the keyboard in a track played at 120bpm
I use the wave editor to define the start and end points of the loop and use the grid to slice it
All seems to be fine, but when I drag the midi to Orion, even though my loop range was set at 4 bars, the midi file will be showing at a totally different size and worse, the beats will not be in sync
It seems that the dragged midi is either a) for the whole larger loop, not just the 4 bars? or b) isnt adjusting to the right tempo
Any ideas please, I'd love to have this worked out!
Thanks

Re: sync sample slices with kontakt in OrionI can't really wrap my head around what exactly you're trying to do here.
I'll presume it's a drum section sample, because you were mentioning beats, and let's say you have cut the 4 bar look out of it. It's original tempo is 127, but you want it to play at 120. This is where you have beats being out of sync. Your 127bpm 4-bar loop measures exactly 4 bars, meaning it fills up all the way to 5 bars at 127bpm, but when you set tempo to 120, that audio clip becomes a little over 4:13, instead of 5:0. To say it specifically in time measurements, at 127bpm it measures 7:559 seconds, while at 120bpm, it measures exactly 8 seconds. Unlike MIDI, which stretches during the tempo change and plays slower or faster, audio remains as it is - its time is unaffected. When played against a mismatching tempo, it makes it out of sync. In order to play your 127bpm loop at 120bpm, you will have to do one of the two things: 1. Match the tempo of audio clip by time-stretching/shrinking it, or 2. Match the project to the loop tempo. And speaking of MIDI, this is where your example gets fuzzy to me. Presuming you meant that you've used Sampler's Groove Slicer... why exactly are you importing a MIDI file? You basically just have to arrange the slices in the PianoRoll and use the measurement that suits your project. I guess it's hard to give any specific advice without seeing and/or hearing what you're trying to do. BTW, importing MIDI to a track automatically expands the pattern to its length: SoundCloud ::: Facebook
