Seen quite a few people asking for a volume mixer and pan knobs for the layers, thought i'd try it
You can tab the current Osc Mixer section , and with some fiddling, prob get Solo/Mute buttons in the underneath the pan
just a visual idea, im no graphics genius....
(the original wasnt as bad as this, but Skinman distorted the fader parts when i resized them, they were actually wider, but you get the idea)

Re: Dune 3 Layer MixerYes, great idea. The amount of space the Osc mixer takes up is irksome, finding a secondary use for it makes it less so.

Re: Dune 3 Layer MixerWould a Layer Mixer be useful? Yes. Is it something I would want development time spent on ? Not really.
With this latest update containing a new skin that would also need to be reworked it doesn't look like a Layer Mixer is on the immediate horizon. I think I mentioned this before but what about a Layer Mixer as a new Tab on the FX/LFO/MSEG section ? The LM is not something you'd use all the time especially if you're only using a single layer for simple patches so having it displayed all the time doesn't seem too efficient but having it accessible from a Tab when needed would seem to be more efficient. And in the end you'd need Faders for 8 Osc 1's, 8 Osc 2's, 8 Osc 3's and 8 Ring Mod/Noise if you wanted those as well not to mention Pan. It might be easier to add a new Tab section than rework the existing skins but only the guys who write the code would know that for sure. EDIT: I'm looking at the default (Large) skin and there is room for several more Tabs by removing or shrinking the "vents". How About a Tab "Mixer 1-4" and another Tab for "Mixer 5-8" ? I think there would be room for 20 smaller Faders on each Tab and that would cover all five Faders from Osc 1 to Noise for each of the four Layers per tab. Re: Dune 3 Layer Mixerit's not visible all the time, it's tabbed

Re: Dune 3 Layer MixerYes and for the reason I explained it doesn't need to be visible all the time. LFO's, FX, MSEG aren't visible all the time depending on which Tab has focus.
So what is your plan to display all the faders from each layer at one time without making the main GUI cramped ? Your mockup above only shows Osc 3 and of course you realize it's tabbed as well. So the options are: Make the GUI bigger. People will complain. Add more Tabs. People will complain. Cram the GUI to the point it looks like PolyAna. People will complain. It breaks down to mouse clicks and cursor travel. How many mouse clicks and how much cursor travel does a new feature eliminate ? In the end is there really that much time saved ? That's the question. The only way to know is to test each concept and find out which one is most beneficial but in the end once again it won't add to or change the sound of Dune 3 one bit. Good luck I hope you get your wish. It doesn't look like the LM is a high priority but you never know what Synapse will do next. I've already done over 50 patches for this latest D3 update so work flow is really a non-issue here. A Layer Mixer would be nice but not a necessity or top priority here.
Re: Dune 3 Layer MixerI like the idea a lot, too. Another option, which would require some significant re-programming, is to add a mixing layer that would bring up a whole new pop-up screen with mix options for layers and parts, and FX sends/returns too.
Re: Dune 3 Layer Mixerthe mock up shows all 8 layers vol faders, i just didn't relabel the faders (it's just a mock up) . It also has S/M and Pan for each layer
so basically, you switch between osc mixer per layer, and Layer mixer. Windows 11 Home - 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400 2.50 GHz -32GB RAM

Re: Dune 3 Layer MixerBut it only shows the Faders from One Osc. In order to show all the Faders you'd need 24 just for the Oscs. How is that an improvement over what we have now or how would that be better than a Layer Mixer tabbed in the lower section ?
Re: Dune 3 Layer MixerI dont think you understand
its nothing to do with the osc (that's all in the osc mixer section, same as it is now) this is a mixer for All layers (vol, pan, s/m) its just an easier way of changing those params instead of using the MM. to clarify, the faders would be labelled L1, L2 etc Last edited by Kriminal on Fri Oct 18, 2019 2:41 pm, edited 1 time in total.
