What would be really lovely to see in Dune 4 , especially given the huge number of independent oscillators and filters this synth provides:
1) A big one for me. Dedicated mod mappers(scalers) for the mod matrix. Maybe something similar to the way Camel Audios(now Apple) Alchemy does it, so that sources don't just affect destinations in a purely linear fashion.
Say you want a more curved response, or have say the mod wheel assigned to filter cutoff, but for the first 0-64 it does nothing, then from 65-127 THEN it starts to increase the cutoff level exponentially like a curve. Really this is something all flagship synths should have now imho.
2) More LFO's. 3 really isn't enough, I would say at least double that amount to 6 please. Yes of course MSEGs can be looped, but really more LFO's would be great
3) More standard ADSR envelopes, maybe a couple more. Sometimes you don't wanna be faffing around with an MSEG, and just wanna have this modulate something else independently, with release action. And with regards to the MSEGS, have the option for loop mode to be poly as well as the current mono.
4) More per-voice fx possibilities. Taking a nod to the latest Legend HZ, with its per-voice compression, would be cool to see similar stuff in Dune 4. Maybe make both the Distortion FX and the Compressor module in the FX rack the option of per-voice in addition to the existing per-voice effect types thats in the filter section currently.
5) Speaking of FX, have some new ones, like multiband compressor, to tame resonances cycling at different frequency ranges.
6) More powerful ARP/SEQ. I love the insane power of the Arp in Arturia's Pigments, in particular its realtime live playing randomisation functions, and the ability to have independent step length for the different aspects of the sound, note, velocity, gate etc. Sadly Pigments arp is locked to on/off for the entire presets. Dune gives you the fantastic ability to assign Arp to any voice, with 2 of them. If Dune had Pigments advanced arp features as well, it would be the ultimate
7) VA Engine. As well as including Sine wave (instead of having to use WT mode), have some vintage synth variations of all the standard waveshape types just to have that different harmonic characters as a starting point
8 ) More powerful wavetable engine with additional features like phase&ring mod.
9) Pure sampler mode with granular/spectral options
Thats all I can think of for now. Still absolutely loving Dune 3, one of the synths I always reach for first

Re: Dune 4 wishlist- Being able to lock the complete ARP section.
So you can browse patches and keep exactly the same ARP effect. (not the partial lock like now) Ostirus also had that - Option to automate extra parameters with the ARP like Legend HZ has and use these in the mod matrix as a source (Param 1-4) Cheers DJP
Re: Dune 4 wishlistThe Legend HZ has an absolutely phenomenal user interface, the knobs, switches, LED's etc look real.
Would you be considering similar UI design on those elements for DUNE 4 as a new skin? Also, I believe the DUNE ARP could be moved into the full width of the UI possibly at the bottom of DUNE (Next to the "Keyboard" tab add a new tab "ARPEGGIATOR" or "ARP") rather than within the LCD area (again, I believe The Legend HZ has a wonderful ARP UI and this would also be the inspiration). Arturia Acid V has a very interesting ARP UX/UI and this could be an interesting exploration purely as a concept. It could even be DUNE 4 has a rear panel built which may lend itself to even further future developments. Also, the wavetable browser/dropdown list is somewhat limited when you have 50+ wavetables as the user has to click on a little 'down' arrow at the bottom of the list to advance to the next wavetable file. Could a better experience be implemented for example display the dropdown with side by side columns to reveal all available wavetable files within one single context meny? Is polyphonic aftertouch a possible feature? Many customers using DUNE have expressive control surfaces. Also, can the LED screen have a range of possible colours? Neon blue, dark, etc? Could look nice. Also, just remembered at some point possibly myself and other users have mentioned visual modulation feedback would be cool. However I must say since I started using Bitwig this isn't needed as Bitwig automatically visually modulates any parameters which is mindblowing and I love it therefore those users who may want visual modulation may instead be invited to get Bitwig, they won't regret it. It's only natural for other DAWs to follow what Bitwig is doing in this area I would guess. Thank You Last edited by Chill Science on Mon Sep 09, 2024 10:25 am, edited 2 times in total.
Re: Dune 4 wishlistWould it be possible to add a 9th layer and make that one unique with literally dune 1's sound and archeticture I really miss those sounds.
Re: Dune 4 wishlistI would like to have polyphonic Aftertouch
Re: Dune 4 wishlistthe easy to use fm mod section from Dune1!
Re: Dune 4 wishlist
The fm is lovely, but what about the filters. Include those as well - all of them
Re: Dune 4 wishlistHaving an additional way to change preset which is more easily accessible than the two arrows at the top right of the LCD would be great. For example at the bottom of the LCD panel you have "SYNAPSE AUDIO DUNE 3" - You could have a couple of buttons there to switch preset. That's closest to the filters and voice controls as well as closer to the keyboard and the other features located just above the keyboard such as LFO's MSG's Effects, etc.
Another convenient feature in my opinion would be a clearer visual on which tab is highlighted/selected as seen in the default skin - for example if I click the "MSEG 1" tab it changes to a pushed-down button design, could it maybe have the text itself iluminated as if a LED-Style button and maybe a white border around the button (as is the case when you click "Distortion", "Equalizer 1", etc" located inside the "FX BUS 1" area)? Also, when using the EQUALIZER 1/2 graphs, when clicking the circles in the graph itself, display an "ON" LED in the corresponding controls to the left of the EQ graph itself, indicating that the user is controlling such band. One more suggestion: add a smaller-height keyboard which is always visible. This avoids having to click the "Keyboard" button. Such additional keyboard would be located just above the buttons "KEYBOARD", "FX BUS 1", "FX BUS 2", LFO's etc. This avoids having to click the "KEYBOARD" tab. Also, in relation to adding a full-lenght "ARPEGGIATOR" panel, there are some air circulation/cooling grills just to the left of the "KEYBOARD" tab and the "MSEG 4" tab which could become smaller (width) and the new "ARPEGGIATOR" button/tab introduced. This addresses the "limitations" in space/width and controls of the current ARP1 and ARP2 which exist inside the LCD screen. Just noticed it would also be great to have a "Link" feature which links the "L-RATE" and "R-RATE" of the Delay controls (so that when one of the knobs is rotated the other follows it). And vice-versa. Thanks!
Re: Dune 4 wishlist1) Wet/Dry or Send Amount knobs per Voice. These could be accessible by Right Clicking where the Voice Mix section is now (with Right Clicking opening a drop down to select flipping between the two). There are so many times I’ve wished I could have a Voice Layer dry at first, then increase the effects using Modwheel or another source.
2) Arpeggiator enhancements – A click + drag and draw ability to quickly enter velocity / sequence step values. Various play options per step (with Low, High, Strum, etc). A live step-mode, where the arp waits for input then quantizes it to whatever resolution it is set at (1/16th, 1/8th, etc) with an option for rests and holds. A new Euclidean Sequencer Mode could be made available in the drop down menu. A mono/polyphonic mode with a vertical piano and the ability to drag and drop the midi into the DAW. 64 steps would be a nice addition as well. 3) Either more MSEG’s or more LFO’s (or both). New options for the MSEG’s, such as the ability to make them bipolar. Other ideas: A loop area for MSEGs, the ability to modulate curves of an MSEG (similar to how Serum does it), the ability to invert the shape of an MSEG (and the ability to modulate this). 4) Warp/mutate options for Wavetables. 5) Revise the interface some. The Voice and Detune on the top right could be relegated to the main screen and made available by clicking Settings (below or beside the Velocity options). I’m a heavy Dune user but I don’t often reach for these Unison Voice controls (Detune/Spread) that often. I feel the space could be better used for something else. The Sample options could be made more present on the front panel. When left clicking on the Sample box, the main screen would immediately show the same window when a user clicks “View” (yes it would be a smaller view area if it's placed in the main window, but it could be "expandable" if needed by clicking somewhere). The View Button could then be removed and replaced with Coarse and Fine pitch knobs for the sample. Right clicking on the blank Sample area would function as the Load button next to it does right now, bringing up a window to browse for samples – there would be 2 options when right clicking this box: either Load Sample or Remove Sample. This would eliminate the Load Button, leaving space for something like a Playback Direction knob or Sample Start in its place. 6) An option to scale a source (with a simple curve with an option to add a point or two - similar to the Velocity Curve available currently), or set a bias that works from a designated note and scales either up or down the octaves. 7) A simple spectrum analyzer for the EQ’s or the main screen. This could be switchable to animated Wavetable view. 8 ) To not implement flashing lights or moving colored semi-circles everywhere. Every synth these days looks like a video game with high fructose candy colored lights moving everywhere. It’s very taxing looking at them for extended periods. I love how Dune’s interface isn’t a stimulation overload. Makes programming it much more pleasant than other synths. If an animation of a wavetable were to be implemented it’d be great to have it as an option in the center screen that could be selectable. 9) The main screen could be utilized for enhanced preset browsing in the same vein as it’s now found when clicking Browser. Everything could be done in the main window. The “Soundbank” tab could be eliminated leaving just “Browse”. Upon clicking "Browse" the main window would display Soundbanks on the left with Patches on the right. A search feature could be added immediately below the top tabs to search via Sound Bank, Author, Type, Name etc. It would make flipping between different screens less necessary and keep it more in the vein of a one page synth. The main screen could be make a tiny bit bigger to accommodate. The option to "expand" the browser screen so it takes up the whole page could be retained if a user prefers. 10) Snap to Semitone option for the MSEG’s. Essentially horizontal lines that could be snapped to / magnetic.
