No fixed pattern lengthI am resurrecting this tread as I agree with the original poster and would very much like to see auto-expanding dynamic pattern lenght as an option when I am recording midi takes. In other words: I'll add my voice to the idea that it would make Orion better.
No fixed pattern lengthimho it's in the last beta isn't it ?

No fixed pattern lengthDamn that is...great...news!
I'm not on the beta team so I wouldn't know.
No fixed pattern lengthIt works in Song Mode, so it's not a blanket feature for all patterns, it's just a specific workflow. It doesn't change anything most of the time, you have to set it up, which is good.

No fixed pattern lengthI'm fine with it being limited to song mode. Setting it up most of the time is part and parcel of how I like to work anyhow.
No fixed pattern lengthWhat about defaulting back to A1 in Song Mode? IE; I do a full piano track to a song on A1, and it's okay. But want to jplay around a bit with another take on A2, On 7.62, if I remove A1 and set for A2 and start recording, the pattern reverts back to A1 soon as the songs starts. Very frustrating.

In Orion 8 it creates a new take automatically, and the length of the clip adjusts to your recording as well. Admin - Synapse Audio Software

No fixed pattern lengthCool! So no need to worry about setting A2, and A3 and all that. Just hit record and go? Nice!
Now what if say A1 was a bum take, and I wanted to record over it and not have a multitude of takes to sift through? Won't it be jumpng to A2 next, and A3 after? Not sure if I fully get the concept. Last edited by Dungeon Studio on Sat Mar 20, 2010 11:46 pm, edited 1 time in total.
No fixed pattern lengthYou don't need to sift through anything. Just ignore the bum takes. Give the final take a decent name and be done with it. Digital sequencers aren't tape machines, you never need to worry about storage, only about organizing things in a way that allow you to work as quickly as possible

No fixed pattern lengthOkay, so that's not too bad. And what about a psurdo Punch In/Out then? IE; I record a full track on A1, but got all fouled up on the second chorus - though everything else is great. Can I move the cursor to the second chorus and record that little bit immediately on A2. Then clear the section in A1, lasso the notes in A2 and copy/paste and position back in A1?
I think that's the biggest bane is the repositioning. So with this new method - it almost sounds like one would not have to? A full linear track again on A2, but the notes start on say measure 48 to 64. I could lasso those those after and immediately paste exact position into A1 - is that right? Would be awesome if so.
