I made this request in the support section, but since this is the FR section of the forum it seems suitable that I make the request here.
A small matter: To be able to insert empty space in the middle of a song in the playlist by pressing a key or two (for example "insert" to move all blocks to the right of the cursor one step to the right, and "shift+insert" one step to the left).
I know it's possible to lasso the blocks and move them that way, but my way would be slightly smoother.
It's not that important, but it's without drawback (it's not a negative for those who don't use it), and I think it's pretty easy to implement.
The feature doesn't seem to be too popular judging from the replies in the other thread, but you can't blame a guy for trying (well, I guess you can). Now that I've said it I probably won't again, and I'm happy the way it is now too.
Cheers.

inserting empty space in the playlistHi JohnDX,
I read the other thread also. But I really can't see that it is an improvement. The lasso function is super simple and works with just 2 steps. Lasso and move. I can't think of a more flexible and more efficient way. Think of inserting patterns. How would you do that with a key combination? And with the key thingy, I would have to move the mouse to the spot which should be 'widened' and then press a key combination. I think you just have to get used to the lasso function. I know that if people are used to functionality of other programs, they don't see how effective other programs handle the same thing. Zoom out and lasso... it's just great. You can move blocks, make space, insert patterns, merge patterns etc. etc. etc.
inserting empty space in the playlistits a useful request, i often drag blocks across the playlist and its tiring, esp from one end to the other. zooming works out sometimes, but its cumbersome. sometime i do copy/cut/paste of blocks which is easier on my wrists compared to lasso-da-lasso. got to be careful of automations though. make sure to select the mixer/song event checkboxes selected. sometimes master events dont replicate correctly.

You may have to lasso across several screens, scrolling, and then scroll back to the starting position. The mouse movement in my suggestion is shorter and neater. You just place the cursor and press 'insert', all done in the same screen with small movements. It's also generally easier to use key commands than the mouse.
Sure, that's no problem. Still thought it was worth a try. (Also, what I suggest is not intended to replace all lasso movements, just those which involve much scrolling.) [Nothing]

No, it wouldn't, it would involve some kind of dialog to be popped up, a value to be entered, then an OK to be pressed. Worst case now, you have to zoom out once or twice, hold CTRL while you lasso the blocks and then move them. If you keep your zoom to a useful level, it will actually be less work than using an "Insert Space" dialog. Better still, it all gets done in the same window without having to go to the drop-down menus or deal with a dialog.
Not necessarily, as once your mouse gets to teh edge fo teh screen, it doesnn't move any further.
Insert how much? It would have to have a dialog. AFAIK, no function in Orion seems to know where the cursor is, so it is probably more work than you would think.
No, it isn't. You always have a hand on the mouse but you need to put your beer down to use the keyboard. Dell G7 (Hexa-Core i7)|Cubase Pro 10||Analog Keys|Ultranova|MicroMonsta|Uno|Skulpt|Craft Synth 2.0|

I think it´s a good idea if it´s not to hard to implement.

I was thinking pressing insert once moves the blocks one step, so you press it as many times as you want to move the blocks. [Nothing]
inserting empty space in the playlistWhich means if you want to insert more than about four bars, you're better off doing it the old-fashioned way. Not much of an improvement, really.

inserting empty space in the playlistI can only advise people to try for themselves. Set the cursor by clicking in the playlist ruler, and imagine moving the blocks in front of it by clicking insert.

I know what you mean. I used to suffer from RSI (repetitive strain injury) partly from computer usage, and one of the most demanding movements was holding down the mousebutton, especially while moving the mouse. That creates much tension (regardless of health status). While lassoing and move blocks over several screen, you have to hold down both the mouse button and ctrl while moving the mouse cursor into position, and then while it scrolls. inserting empty space in the playlistout of curiosity, why do you want to add empty spaces?

I sometimes realize I want to put some more music between two parts... (so it's not emptiness per se I want, that's just the first step). Last edited by JohnDX on Wed Jan 28, 2009 12:02 pm, edited 1 time in total.

inserting empty space in the playlistso you basicaly want to push the patterns along and insert new ones?

inserting empty space in the playlistKrim's right. It's the way it's always been done and no-one (AFAIK) has thought it should be dine differently.
On a side note, I don't understand this RSI business. Surely if you practised onanism everyday you'd have good strong wrists.
