Apologies if this has been mentioned before, I've not posted for about 7 years!
But I think it would be great if Orion showed parameter enveolopes in the song list view, along the lines of Acid, or Sonar (I think)
I personally find it much easier to adjust sounds that way.
envelopes over tracks for parameter controlModerators: Christophe, Mark envelopes over tracks for parameter controlBetween Event Editors, visual automation on the synths and mixers, snap lines and Scale and LFO Tools - I'd say Orion is pretty visual when it comes to 'moving parts'.
If you're talking visual toggle lines with nodes across the tracks for volume and pan, etc. It would be hard to see on a 'full view' in Song mode, and would get cluttered and confusing if pattern blocks are showing note data as well. Way better off to manually record parameter changes, tailor them in Event, and watch those knobs and faders move in Song.
envelopes over tracks for parameter controlWe might be getting that in the form of automation clips:

envelopes over tracks for parameter controlHoly crap Mark! That's a GREAT idea! That's been one of my biggest banes is one couldn't 'repeat' sculpted events in Song. But a singular assignable track that I take it not just one synth but many could follow - BRILLIANT!
I like it, I like it! :jump:
envelopes over tracks for parameter controlYeah but it gets better than that, you can store your favorite automation as presets (fade in/outs would be a simple example), and, even better, you can store whole templates for complex automation tasks.
Those Benny Benassi filter or reverb sweeps are only a mouseclick away with Orion 8. Admin - Synapse Audio Software

envelopes over tracks for parameter controlHow will the clips be linked? By right clicking a knob and selecting new or existing clip? Will they be scalable for connecting one clip to different parameters?
As Steven says: :jump:
envelopes over tracks for parameter controlYes, just like with pattern/song events.
And yes they'll be uniform most likely, so that the same clips can be used for anything and not tied to e.g. the volume fader. Admin - Synapse Audio Software

envelopes over tracks for parameter controlOutstanding Rich! That's the best upgrade I've seen yet! So any drawn event in 'pattern' the can be applied to any CC/VST parameter of a synth or effect. And I take it this will be able to Merge as well (for reset smoothing and such?) And what about 'copy/paste' from an existing Event Editor? IE; I did all these sawtooth things for a filter effect in the chorus, and want to make that a pattern. I take it I would have to delete the other flotsam/jetsam if so, and then just <--> the sawtooth portion to the top, and set length for 128 or whatever, and voila?
Really revolutionary Rich! That could be setting some precedents for sure!
envelopes over tracks for parameter controli really fail to see what the diff is betweem envs and standard automation...would someone car to explain?
an env to control the volume? whats that about? its either going up or going down isnt it? Windows 11 Home - 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400 2.50 GHz -32GB RAM

envelopes over tracks for parameter controlI think the Event Editor is more than plenty for Volume and Pan. Anything more radical with those should be done with a Auto Pan or Gate effect. The days of that Acid and WaveLab spline stuff is over!

Sure Dave, there's plenty of advantages. Automation is visible, moveable, cloneable, comes with all sorts of reusable presets, templates and whatnot...best you just test it when it's there The fact the mixer and effects can be automated already is true but it's also a fucking PITA as it stands. same as the Event Editor then, no? you can do that there? i really dont see what having an ENV does in regards to automation..help me out here..im not against it, i just cant see an advatage or difference (except from the point of view that DAW XYZ has it so Orion must have it...)
really? its been dead simple for me for the last 9 years..maybe im missing something, and making my life really diificult without realising it... Windows 11 Home - 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400 2.50 GHz -32GB RAM

Automation tracks will be completely hideable (after they are used in a song)? If not I'll dislike it, Orion will be as bad as Reason, wasting spaces in playlist. Are they editable in full view, and with free drawing and lines? (I guess yes, you have a brain. :p )
envelopes over tracks for parameter controlI too don't mind the Event Editor that bad, and has served me well. But on the odd occasion I'd want a slow sweep pan for a measure and a half, a quick sweep back, and do the process again 3 more times for some nutty thing in a break or chorus or something. Something a Auto Pan just can't do. It was cool drawing and hearing the first time, but then having to draw the same things for the next chorus, and the next - FPITA indeed! So I'd either say 'to hell with it', or have to stream the portion, and sneak it in to a audio track or something. Really kills the creativity and output going through all that crap.
But this Pattern Event, way huge cool! You can chuck out that Pattern Controlled Filter now too Rich - who needs that bogus little bugger now? Last edited by Dungeon Studio on Thu Jan 29, 2009 10:02 pm, edited 1 time in total.
