I use several instances of an effect often, and reassigning FX can be trial-and-error. It'd make it much easier to find the right one (and not pull a like-named effect from another strip by mistake) if unassigned FX showed in the list with an *, with text in italics or indented to indicate it's not currently assigned somewhere else.
Like so:

"Unassigned" indicator in right-click -> "Assign FX"Maybe even to show what it's assigned to, like in the generator list window (CTRL + J)?

"Unassigned" indicator in right-click -> "Assign FX"Nice idea Epi! I constantly have things on 'stand by' and minimised. I go to move a comp from a channel to a bus strip or something, and dawns on me 'Ooops, that's the comp I had for the vocals!' :shame:
Me likey!
"Unassigned" indicator in right-click -> "Assign FX"Actually, thinking about it some more, it would also be fanvuggentastic to drag and drop from one insert to another.

"Unassigned" indicator in right-click -> "Assign FX"Yes, 2 clicks is better than 1.
Wait.. While I would much prefer the solution I first submitted, the drag & drop also offers an express route to moving inserts. Granted, it presents an issue similar to the nightmare that can be mousewheel scrolling in the playlist. Last edited by epilogue on Mon Feb 09, 2009 4:04 am, edited 1 time in total.

"Unassigned" indicator in right-click -> "Assign FX"Wait a minute Epi - you click the menu on either standard or italic names, and up comes the effect. And you're saying to drag the name directly to a insert on channel or bus or knob? I've never been that comfertable with effects, and usually need to look and think about them and where I need them to go beforehand. And some of these effect names I can't even remember what the hell they are half the time.
"Unassigned" indicator in right-click -> "Assign FX"Two separate ideas. The drag/drop doesn't figure in with the original proposal.

"Unassigned" indicator in right-click -> "Assign FX"i like the original idea too, indicating unassigned effects.
I almost always rename my effects to indicate what they are and how i'm using them, but having unassigned marked would be useful.
"Unassigned" indicator in right-click -> "Assign FX"I like the (first) idea too, but in the meantime Ctrl+J will give you a list of generators and effects currently in a project and whether or not they are assigned to something.
"Unassigned" indicator in right-click -> "Assign FX"Ok, good idea, I put unassigned effects in brackets or something
