There'll be a special update price for a limited period of something like 4 weeks. The price diff between Orion 7 and Orion 8 will be $100 minimum, so people who buy it now for $99 and then get the update for say $49 in fact save money.
I've been thinking about lifetime free upgrades, but it's eyewash really, since it would mean extra add on's, instruments and effects that cost $$$, a lot more than the upgrades.
I'm a bit confused. What will the upgrade price be for those of us who started with Orion Pro, purchased the original Platinum and a few upgrades along the way?
We can't make a price for every individual customer.
Also note:
- Other software charges much more for upgrades. If you own one of the big sequencers since a long time, you'll have spent $2000 or more just in upgrade fees.
- Most Orionauts have spent less than $100 in upgrade fees, the maximum amount possible should be $300 or so (there were 4 paid upgrades in 9 years)
- Since we do exactly what the customers want, esp with Version 8, the money charged is ridiculously low. Most companies do whatever they feel is right.
- V8 is going to have several features that you suggested/wanted afair, the working time it costs us is easily in the $3000 neighborhood, if you want me to write you an invoice instead...I'm suprised people are completely oblivious about just how much work it is to implement the features they want, and what the costs are. A simple car inspection over here is $500, with no new features, just a few fixes, and it's done in less than a day. Software is months or years of work. So the upgrade price, let me repeat that, is so low it's ridiculous and more than fair.

I'm afraid you misunderstood my question. Did I complain about the upgrade price? Have I ever complained about an upgrade price over the years? Did I ask for a special price? I said I was a bit confused. The way your post I quoted read to me is that the 7 to 8 upgrade would be $100 but if you buy Orion for $99 now the upgrade would be $49. Read it again.
Did you miss the part where I said that I didn't have a problem paying for the upgrade? Did you miss the part where I said I would pre-pay for the upgrade? Could you not just give a simple answer as to how much the upgrade will be?
Seriously you can't ask a simple fucking question around here without getting jumped on from all sides.

i am 100% with rich on this. it is so shameful to ask for a a free V8 upgrade First of all V7 is a ridiculous $99. Consider the new features being added to make it v8. This is exactly what i said sometime back "most people want cheap shit with hi-quality". how about first doubling your workhours and reducing your salary by half? yeah you like that? orion is not some toy which you can get for free like some plasticky shit in a toy shop. just because rich is nice, doesnt mean you can take undue advantage. Ungrateful users indeed!

That was a misunderstanding then, the upgrade price is universal. Certainly long-term users aren't charged extra, that would be weird.

Yes - maybe I did read it but forgot that it was you.

Probably $49 for a limited period. It's hard to say though, it depends on many factors that are impossible to predict, e.g. just how many features are there going to be in Orion 8, what other product updates are released this year, is Orion 8 going to be only slightly better or much better than them, etc...
Btw, key names for Drum VSTi's will also come in V8. Just thought I'd mention it, I recall you requested that

That would be a very fair upgrade price. Just let me know when we can pay.

That's great news! Yes key names are one of my biggest feature requests. Looking forward to ver 8. I'll purchase the upgrade the second I know it's available.
Me? I'm stoked! I was always worried that Rich would lose interest in Orion and move onto something else. I am so excited to see all the new features that will be in 8. A limited time upgrade of $49 sounds fantastic.
