a way to collect favorite presetsI'd like to have an easy way to collect favorite presets, done directly from the generator wrapper. Sort of a list of "bookmarks" that's easy to add to and remove from.

a way to collect favorite presetsok, you can do this already (for years)
you mean VST or native? for native stuff, make a new folder and save you own/fav presets in there for VST (if that synth allows, some have internal format) save as single .fxp files, then using MiniHost, load then all up and save as a bank/.fxb little bit of reaserch, thats all you need..and patience..one response doesnt warrant a new thread Windows 11 Home - 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400 2.50 GHz -32GB RAM

a way to collect favorite presetsI did examine the the host closely though, and didn't find what I wanted. What you're talking about is "low level" work, moving (or saving) files and using an external program. Not very work flow friendly. What I'm suggesting is a feature that is as easy to use as bookmarking a webpage. That's more practical and would get used a lot more, I think.
Both, any VST. Last edited by JohnDX on Sat Feb 28, 2009 12:00 pm, edited 1 time in total.

a way to collect favorite presetsi think you just want something to do all the work for you, learn your tools and you will find its very easy to do it the way i suggested.
if not, write to every VST dev and ask them to implement it in the synths, let me know how you get on. Windows 11 Home - 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400 2.50 GHz -32GB RAM

a way to collect favorite presetsBTW, i used to do this all the time, save my own, or my fav presets from VST's and make my own banks..takes no time at all (apart from going thru hundreds of crap presets to find ones you like)

Some things should be made as easy and smooth as possible, to leave more time for the interesting and creative stuff. But since what I want doesn't exist, I guess I do have to do as you say. As for the FR, it's for Richard to decide.
That doesn't sound like much fun. But some VSTs (like Absynth) do have that feature. Last edited by JohnDX on Sat Feb 28, 2009 12:23 pm, edited 1 time in total.

you're bieng silly now...its not Richwho makes all the VSTs, and its already possible to easily do what you want, so the request is moot Windows 11 Home - 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400 2.50 GHz -32GB RAM

"Easy to use" think might not be so easy to implement. I think that would require some rehauling of the current preset management system. SoundCloud ::: Facebook

I'm going to try it (have downloaded minihost), but I don't think it is easy enough to drop the request. What if saving bookmarks in a webbrowser required some sort of saving of files, and then an external program to build these files into a bank. It wouldn't be terribly hard, but it would still be a slight friction in the process. I probably will shuffle presets back and forth between the "favorite bank" to some extent and I want it easy and possible to do right there in Orion where I'm doing the rest of the work. [Nothing]

I'm not sure, but I think you could keep the old system intact, and just add a new menu for collecting presets. I'm not suggesting adding a 'bank building' capacity into Orion, just a menu with shortcuts (or bookmarks, or whatever the term) to existing presets. A menu, an "add current preset to favorites" option, and a "remove current preset from favorites" option, and whatever code needed to implement these things. Shouldn't be that hard. Perhaps still not the best use of their time, but that's not for me to decide, I just say what I want and leave the rest to them. If it doesn't get implemented, that's fine, it's hardly a deal-breaker, just a nice little feature. Last edited by JohnDX on Sat Feb 28, 2009 9:32 pm, edited 1 time in total.

a way to collect favorite presetsMake a Fav Folder at your plugins' preset folders and save your fav presets to there.
a way to collect favorite presetsLance, I'm going to try out some things now and see what's most convenient...

a way to collect favorite presetsThis is the simplest thing in the universe [certainly much simpler than String theory, anyway]. Find a preset you like and save it to a folder called "Favourite Presets". Done, no other action required. You don't have to save VST presets as .fxp or .fxb, you can simply save them as .prs, just like native generators and effects. There is a preference for whether Orion displays .prs or .fxp/.fxb in the drop-down list but if you use the open and save buttons, you will be able to see them all, regatrdless of format.
When I used commercial VSTs, I did this all the time - change to use .fxb, go through all the presets and save the good/useful ones as .prs, then switch back to using .prs when you are done. That way, instead of having to wade through endless banks of sounds that are 95% useless, you can have a manageable number of presets that can act as good starting points for your own sounds. a way to collect favorite presetsI do prefer the drop menu, but I think that's mostly a visual preference that I can ignore, and I guess time-wise it's acceptable to go via the files directly, especially now that I see that it creates folders automatically (and puts you at the right place for each generator so that you don't have to navigate through the file system). Perhaps I was too quick on this one.
As for the drop menu, I can only get it to work with some of the VSTs. I'll be playing around a little with this and see what suits me best (I'll still be checking out minihost even if I won't use it in the end). Thanks for the help. [Nothing]
a way to collect favorite presetssome vst;s handle presets internally, nothing Orion can do about that...
