i think the first option looks best - the knobs are much more realistic, especially when we see it without the anti-aliasing.
just one thing though - the knobs look 'plastic' and that's right, because you would expect most if not all knobs to be plastic these days, but the strip background also looks plastic, and i would hope in any decent desk the beackground would be metal - would it be possible to have a bit of metallic shimmer? i know that would be hard due to the way the skins are constructed, you need the background around the knobs to match pixel by pixel to the knobs themselves.
also, are the insert and channel labels going to have an 'lcd' look to them? it looks a bit like that from the screenshots but i'm not sure. i like that best personally!
it would be great to see a dark version with light text too!
anyway, from what we've seen so far, whatever options bones chooses, it looks like it will be the best skin orion has ever had!
Input on Skins RequiredModerators: Christophe, Mark Input on Skins RequiredEach knob and and the slider have gray lines around them to help see where the control is set (where the red "hot spot" of the control is pointed). What if that function - a visual cue for where the control is set - extended out into the surrounding lines?
Taking a hardware view, it would be as if each control were surrounded by LEDs that make a corresponding glow when the control points at them. The color of this "LED" could be chosen for various criteria - to show maximum contrast with the knob's red pointing bit, to reinforce information for instance, the value of a Send knob is shown both by its position and the dimness or brightness of its glow, pretty colors schemes and so on. For that matter, couldn't you do without the fiddly little radial lines and just use the corresponding glow to show the value of the control setting? For example, on a knob, keep the outer concentric ring because that shows the overall range of control values but then eliminate the short radial lines. To me, no matter what the color scheme, those short lines just look like a blurry dead space around the control itself. FWIW, Ableton Live eliminates such lines and the knob settings are clear at a glance though they have gone more to a graphical 2D look.
Input on Skins RequiredI prefer the overall feel of the first mock up also.
The second one does not get my attention at all. Lee Ray's suggestion for the led glow is also good, would like to see that happen. thanks again mate. ---=u f o=--- /Radiation Mutant / Snee-Nee-Iq
Input on Skins RequiredThere really isn't room to do that on the Mixer but I'm already planning on doing something like that for some for the generators. Remember, you get accurate values for mixer knobs on the status bar. I don;t know about the rest of you, but when I'm adjusting a knob on the mixer, I am looking at the status bar, not at the knob.

Well, I meant that the mixer-side indicator - a glow, another red line, corresponding dot, whatever you design - would simply be where the radial lines are today.
I am not thinking so much of accuracy as just a visual impression. Thank you for the info on the Status Bar. In all the time I have used Orion, I never knew that information was displayed there.
Input on Skins RequiredStatus bar - yes. In fact I find myself gawking at for just about everything I tweak - has been an extremely useful implementation.

Input on Skins RequiredWhat I would like (this is not skinning) That you see the value big next to what you are adjusting that you can see clearly you have set it on 64 or something

Input on Skins Requiredit's going to be a while, as Rich has to make some changes to the skinning system so that it can work properly. When he is done, it will open up a world of possibilities though, so you can expect to see some really useful stuff from me and grymmjack once it's done, like mixer strips less than half the height of the current ones.
I used to worry about that kind of thing but over time I have come to realise that it's largely meaningless. You are better off judging with your ears. Dell G7 (Hexa-Core i7)|Cubase Pro 10||Analog Keys|Ultranova|MicroMonsta|Uno|Skulpt|Craft Synth 2.0|

Input on Skins RequiredSo what are you planning for the volume faders?
Would it be something like this? My preference would be like that but it would be inverted instead of dipped (like you're pinching it, but still some flatness at the top) but either would be cool. Also the idea that it would be stepped or notched, and not smooth (it looks too candy and gradient like that) Otherwise I like the initial look. The color scheme wouldn't be to my taste, but I'm not worried about it until you're done with the final render. I had this idea for the base to be a metallic midnight blue, with a slight touch of wear between the fader and low cut, where there would be an embossed Orion symbol, but it wouldn't be intense and stand out that much. Input on Skins RequiredI am thinking of making it sunk into the console, like my old Alesis mixer was. So the top of the fader would be almost level with the surface. I'll try it out before I decide.
