Great idea epilogue. I would definately find this usefull even with AT's

Krim: I'm sure you can but with big projects (and even with small ones) instant visual feedback in the mixer view would be nice, and its not going to be an eye sore this way

True, but I don't set up a dedicated AT for every automation - I use the plain old event editor a lot for one-shot tweaks.

Edit: I also see this being very useful in projects that I've Merged ideas from several SFSs into - I have at least a few bars in most of the project files, and merging them to a new project brings with them their automation events, not all of which are always totally apparent.
Example:
I was working on a new project and wanted to put in a melody from another project. I did, but the last time I'd touched the old project was two years ago. There was a very subtle cutoff automation at bar 80 and it took me a few minutes to figure out why the hell there was a weird hiccup there. (In retrospect, I could have brought up the event editor, hit the dropdown arrow and looked for highlighted params, but that doesn't make a static, apparent indicator any less desirable).

It is not a simple improvement. It would require two different knob animations for each of the three or four different knobs used in the mixer, which would have to be swapped over on the fly [which could cause the audio to glitch, I imagine]. And you already get an excellent visual indicator of automation anyway - the knob moves all by itself.
